After experiencing the same issues as those described in the previous messages, I believe I have found a solution:
during installation, you should not choose "run everything from the hard drive" (default option) but "install upon first use."
As the name of this option indicates, the infamous configuration window reopened every time I first used one of the suite's components, but since then, there have been no issues (it's been a week).

The installation program, you mean, right? If that's the case, insert the CD once and for all, so it can retrieve the files it needs, and normally it won’t bother you with that anymore.

If that doesn't work, try a complete reinstall of Office.

So, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, diagnosed Office 2007, cleaned the registry, and each time I launch an Office product, the configuration phase restarts.

Same for me, a solution...

I reinstalled Vista and since then it's working perfectly.

When starting MS-WORD 2007, a configuration window opens systematically for a short duration, but it's too long to bear, especially when opening many documents throughout the day.
I think I found a solution to this problem; let me know if it works for everyone:
1-insert the Office 2007 CD into the drive.
2-launch MSWORD 2007
3-the configuration window opens (Grrr)
4-close the configuration window by clicking on the X in the top right corner
5-starting another configuration thing
6-problem solved, it seems....
7-the configuration window no longer opens (YAY...)

I also have this problem on a new Dell PC with Vista Home Premium and Office 2007 Home & Student.

The most surprising thing is that the setup routine launches when opening an Office file (Excel or Word), but it does not launch when starting Word or Excel directly without opening a file first.

I have tried repairing Office, uninstalling/reinstalling, but nothing works.

I haven't found anything on the Microsoft support site (apparently similar issues occur when there are remnants of older versions of Office, which is not the case for me).

I still have the same problem as you even after reinstalling Office with Félix's advice. I'm starting to despair of not finding the solution.
