Virus autorun.inf Ouch ! Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

Here’s my problem: I caught a virus on my USB drive which, of course, spread to my PC. I use Avast, which normally works very well, but no matter how much I quarantine or delete the virus, it always comes back on all my hard drives. Avast tells me the following: File name: Autorun.inf, Malware name: INF:Autorun-Cb [Trj] and it’s a Trojan.
The virus doesn’t seem very harmful but it’s really annoying because it pops up every 20 seconds on my two hard drives, and so far I haven’t noticed any particular damage. But I am currently in Mexico and it’s quite difficult to find someone to help me.

I’ve already tried a few things with programs like Spybot, C-Cleaner, Revo-uninstaller, but nothing works. I think I probably need to delete a file, so I’ve used Hijack This, but the report it gives me looks like Japanese to me... So if someone who knows a bit more could lend me a hand, I can send the Hijack report if necessary.

Yes gen-hackman, there is a small utility that deletes autorun.inf every time it sees one:

As soon as I plug in a USB stick or an external hard drive that has previously been connected to another computer other than mine, I start this program and click on the "start" button, then I can plug in the stick; if there is an autorun.inf, the program renames it as soon as it sees it. Since I started using this program, I haven't had any problems with autorun.inf viruses anymore!

It's easy to remove autorun and many others like ravmon that few antivirus software eliminate.
The solution is to go to the command prompt found in the accessories and type the correct path and the following commands:
attrib *.* (displays everything in the directory; often viruses do not have an A at the beginning of the line, but everything that doesn't have it is a virus)
attrib -r -s -h virusname
del virusname
and that's it.

How to know FileName.extension?
Answer: Execute --- c:\autorun.inf
you will find lines
search for the line containing Open=
Open=FileName

- save the file, then click on it twice:
- copy this file to C:\ and D:\ and all Drivers (Partitions) and execute it.

restart the PC.

That's what you think... This infected file copies itself onto all hard drive partitions and all removable drives (USB sticks, MP3 players, external hard drives, iPods...), it is likely that Avast only deletes some of them (like all antivirus programs)

Good evening! Like you, while doing a thorough scan, Avast found an "autorun.inf"
Strange, just after I installed a certain software =/

I clicked "Quarantine" then "Delete All"
When I open the quarantine area, they show me: "Infected file name: Autorun.inf"

So I went to My Computer and typed: "C:\autorun.inf" and a message popped up indicating that the file no longer exists or never existed

But I'm still not reassured! because I'm especially afraid that it might be a keylogger!
So I tried to open Word, I typed anything, and when I closed the program, (which previously saved the changes), I noticed a small file just above the text file, this small file was named "~WRD0001.tmp"
. This file quickly vanished as Word was closed!

Is this a keylogger?

My Avast is currently scanning ... But I would like answers

However, I haven't plugged in any USB/removable devices for quite a while!

And the last time I scanned my computer with Avast, it didn't find Autorun.inf!!!!

• Run the installation with the default settings
• Connect your external data sources to your PC (USB key, external hard drive, MP3 player, etc.) without opening them
• Double-click on the UsbFix shortcut on your Desktop
• In the main menu, choose cleaning
• The PC will restart
• After restarting, post the UsbFix.txt report (it is saved at the root of the hard drive)

Alright, how do I access the hard drive, because I can't anymore... it turns on and 30 seconds later it turns off, it doesn't even display the D drive on my computer.   Correction, the D drive is now showing but when I try to open it, Explorer... it tells me there's nothing in the D drive.

Well, I can’t do anything now; my sister-in-law got her hard drive back. But when I tried to right-click to see properties, explore, or open it, it showed that there was nothing in the drive. It should already be getting better, but there's still a mess: kav48.exe    Download random's system information tool (RSIT) and save it to the Desktop.  Double-click on RSIT.exe to launch RSIT.  Read the Disclaimer screen and then click on Continue (if you accept the terms).  If the HijackThis tool (latest version) is not present or not detected on the computer, RSIT will download it (allow access in your firewall, if prompted) and you will need to accept the license.  When the scan is complete, two text files will open.  Post the content of log.txt   --  @+

re,  Flash Disinfector created a folder at the root of the C:/ drive titled autorun.inf containing a file named lpt3. This folder was created by Flash_Disinfector.  usbfix did the same thing on G:  # C:\autorun.inf -> Folder created by Flash_Disinfector. # D:\autorun.inf -> Folder created by Flash_Disinfector. # G:\autorun.inf -> Folder created by UsbFix.  you should not delete them, they protect your USB keys and your PC at the same time. Hello, is there a solution to get rid of this crap (Autorun.inf) when I double-click on the disk C:/D:.. a message written in Arabic appears. I ran the command in the Run dialog > c:\autorun.inf or D:\autorun.inf  it gives: [autorun]  shellexecute=Wscript.exe kubernesis.vbe does that seem normal to you?  does that seem normal to you?   I scanned with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware  it tells me I removed, as you can see: C:\autorun.inf (SuspectAutorun.Rootdrive.H) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. pfff still exists! can someone help me?  thanks

Problem solved! I managed it all by myself! So I'll give you my advice: you need to delete > Wscript.exe   [autorun]  shellexecute=Wscript.exe kubernesis.vbe  it's not easy! I used my Linux, it's magic, you can see all the files on Windows. Hello,  I have a hard drive infected with a Trojan: recycle... backdoor... I used Kaspersky Small Office Security 6.0 from another computer and it detected this infection, but it couldn't do anything. I copied files from this infected drive to my USB stick. Kaspersky detected the same infection and deleted it, I copied files again from the infected HDD and tried with NOD32, which detected in addition to the previous infection the autorun.inf virus on the USB stick, but it did not detect it on the infected hard drive. - Who can inform me a bit about recycle and autorun.inf? - Is autorun.inf a system file? - Why did NOD32 not detect autorun.inf on the hard drive but detected it on the USB stick?  I downloaded anti-autorun.inf, and I installed it on one PC. But I couldn't execute it!! And after that, I wanted to delete the installation folder but the same thing happened!! I got an error message indicating that the file is being used by another program!! Who can explain that to me??   Thank you.

My PC was suffocated by this crap. I managed to get out of it this way: 1- Download "NOD 32" onto a USB stick and another PC 2- Uninstall NORTON from the infected PC 3- Transfer NOD 32 to the infected PC 4- Install NOD 32 5- Scan with NOD 32 ALL IS WELL, TROJAN brisvA eliminated, my PC is back to its 20-year-old legs!

Hello, my problem is that I don't think it's viral, but Antivir Guard tells me it has blocked G:/autorun.inf, with G: being an external drive. I don't think I have a virus. I'm simply wondering why it's doing this and if there is a problem, how to fix it. I went into Guard settings, exclusions, and added the G: drive, but it still does this. Thank you in advance.

Autorun files are created by people: http://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/12609-creer-un-fichier-autorun-inf  and Windows uses autoruns to run, autoruns are not viruses, but they sometimes execute viruses. To remove a virus from autorun, you need to open the autorun file with Notepad and delete everything after open= for example: open=virusaname.exe
