Hello,
I've downloaded Ares but I've never managed to get it to work, meaning I can't perform searches. I've used it before and I liked it. But on my machine, it doesn't work!!! Why... I don't know.

EUH! Hello everyone. Apparently, we all have the same problem. If Ares isn't connecting, it's just because you haven't opened the port. The default port is 49674.
So I have a Neuf box. I type 192.168.1.1 and then after entering the credentials, I go to network and then NAT and there we open the ports. How to do it? It's simple. You just have to follow the instructions.
PS: For the ports, instead of selecting TCP or UDP, please set both, and the port number is 49674.
For more information: birame88@yahoo.fr
Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience. Bye. Peace and love! You all keep smiling!!

So I solved the problem by adopting the onelove solution and it works instantly! In the NAT ports of my BBOX, I entered the incoming connection port number for Ares, and since it was only on UDP when it didn't work, I deleted it before selecting "both" (UDP & TCP) in the drop-down menu before entering the name & port in the NAT tab of my box! And there, miracle, it lists! Thank you 1love! ;)
As another guy said a little higher, it's just the port that is not open, so the solution is:
- open "ares"
- go to the "control panel" icon (in ares of course)
- then click on the "network" icon
- type the following code in "server address": 49674
- then click on check connection
normally it should say test successful
well, that's it, good luck to everyone ;]

Good evening, I also have Ares under Vista. On my laptop, it doesn't connect, but on my dad's computer, which also runs Vista, it connects and can download whatever it wants. I've tried making modifications, like changing the port, but nothing works, nothing changes. If someone has a solution that would be cool!
See you!

Hello everyone.
I used to use Ares frequently without any issues, but for some time now I haven't been able to connect.
After looking around a bit (yes, you need to do some research before criticizing the software), I came across a page stating that versions prior to 2.1.1 were "out" (therefore unusable).
So I simply downloaded Ares again (2.1.1.3035) and it's magical, it works.

Hi everyone
I have version 2.1.1.3035 and it just crashed
I uninstalled and then reinstalled / nothing works
I changed the port numbers as indicated above / nothing works
Who has this version? What number should I put and where? If it crashed, what did you do?
Maybe there’s a new version and this one is already outdated?
Thanks for your help

Hello,
like you, I've been having the same connection problem with Ares 2.09 regarding searches for some time now.
I went into the Ares control panel and entered port 32285 in the "transfer" tab in the incoming connection port box instead of the one displayed by default in Ares, and it worked, but sometimes it gets stuck again.
If you have downloads stuck, try saving them in another directory and removing them from Ares.

I have the same problem, before it worked but since I changed session (after a problem), it no longer works.
Otherwise, I didn't fully understand where to go to find the ports and modify them afterwards.
I would like to try "onelove"'s solution.
Thank you all for your responses.

I have always used Ares in America and that's where there are really more files than in all the others. I think it’s blocked here :( it’s disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to add that there is another solution:
(Ares must be completely closed even in the notification area [near the clock*] )
* go to the control panel (Windows)
* switch to classic display mode
* open the Windows firewall
* in the "Exceptions" tab, look for "Ares p2p" in the list below and check its box (if Ares is not in this list, click on add a program and add "Ares")
* confirm with OK
* Run Ares
* Wait a bit and there you go, it's online!!
I hope this helps you!!
Good luck

I have practically the same problem so I followed the advice on Chingacook but when I download a file, it arrives in the transfers but it goes into "search" mode and when I turn Ares off and back on the file is AUTO-deleted...
I would like to know if I'm not the only one in this situation and if anyone has found solutions???
*Help I need somebody*

@ MlleNnCo,
When you restart Ares, the recently downloaded file automatically deletes itself from the transfer list, but it remains saved in the directory. Just go to:
"Directory" (at the top) and then click on "all files" and you will find all the audio and video pieces you have downloaded on Ares.
See you!

I reinstalled Vista to see if it was a bug, but it didn't change anything; it still doesn't want to connect.

same problem except that at my place emule, limewire and all the others work but ares...it's always in connecting...
When you don't know how to use Ares, I admit it can be useless, but you don't need to be a seasoned IT expert to download; a little common sense is enough.
When nothing shows up in the search bar after you've typed what you wanted, it's because you made a "spelling" mistake or misspelled it, and Ares therefore isn't searching the right server. Additionally, it could also be due to the Internet connection through Ares, which activates automatically at startup unless you've disabled it.
If it's still not working, check the Ares servers and IPs.
See you later!

Yay! Hooray, I don't know how I did it but after it came back online!
Thanks anyway! And long live the CCM forum!

And the laptop one works when changing the port despite the IP remaining completely unchanged.
Thanks again.
