Hello everyone; I’m new to this forum and I joined because I have a connection problem with my wifi:
I’m using an Orange Livebox and my wifi is a Sagem “xg760n” under Windows 98
When I connect via ethernet the Internet works perfectly, but as soon as I install the wifi I can’t complete the installation because when it asks me for the security key it shows me "SSID error". It also says that a file named "mfc42.DLL" is missing.
I tried downloading this file but nothing changes.
Please reply as soon as possible because it’s urgent.

Hello everyone, I installed my Orange Livebox on Wi-Fi on my desktop PC with the Sagem key and it detects many networks, but I can’t connect. I entered my protection key and I still have no connection. When I connect with the cable it works. Help me please, URGENT.
I just tried again, now it no longer tells me that a file is missing, because I downloaded it and updated it on the site you recommended, but it still shows me "SSID error" just before I have to enter the wifi security key.
Kevyn59,
what installation do you do (cd or manual)?
Have you disabled your antivirus and firewall before starting the installation?

I cannot disable a firewall or antivirus because I don't have any. I did the manual installation by following the instructions noted on the site and then in the Quick Start bar; in the bottom right of the screen there is an icon that corresponds to "Network Utility for SAGEM Wi-Fi 11g USB adapter." If I try to open it, nothing happens, so I continued with the installation using the CD, but it gives me an "SSID error."
Kevyn59,
if you are on Windows the firewall is built-in:
- start
- control panel
- switch to Classic View (if you’re not already there)
- Windows Firewall: check that "Off" is checked.
When you go through the Start menu, don’t you also have no access to the Wi-Fi dongle?

Kevyn59,
sorry you had mentioned it from the start! Did you switch to association mode? And when you go through the Start menu, you still don’t have access to the wifi dongle?

By going through the Start menu I only have uninstall programs and Help.
And in Start/Livebox/Utilities there is:
- Wireless connection manager
- Reset
But no dongle.

Thank you, Maya. The problem is solved; the best solution was to place a telephone outlet near my PC.
Hello,
I’m following up on this topic because I have the same problem: when I try to install the Sagem Livebox on my desktop PC (with the USB Wi-Fi key), no Livebox name appears in the list.
In fact, it worked the first day, but the connection was quite chaotic, so I had my USB Wi-Fi key replaced,
and with the new key, after uninstalling and reinstalling the mess, it doesn’t work at all anymore.
The Livebox works fine: I have a laptop connected via Wi-Fi.
So here’s where I’m at:
- I called support, who couldn’t do anything for me...
- Apparently, it’s not a driver problem (in Device Manager: everything seems to be working)
- my firewall and antivirus are disabled
- even placing my Livebox next to my PC (no telephone line connected, just for testing)... the Livebox isn’t detected
- something that seems strange to me: in “Administrative Tools,” the “Wireless Auto Configuration” tends to stop by itself: but even restarting it (in automatic mode), it doesn’t work...
Does anyone have any idea? (I’m desperate...)
