Image display issue in Outlook

Hello,

Outlook 2003 / Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7.0

When I create a message with an image, it appears, but in the sent message, I get the square with the red cross.

If I take the message back to forward it, the image reappears.

The images in the emails I receive do not appear either, unless I click on "forward".

This is driving me crazy.

Thank you for your responses...

Michel (Alias Propane)
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello,
I've been dealing with the same problem for months and have been lurking on the forums to find a solution, without success.

Some images appear, others do not, and THAT'S IT! EUREKA! I finally understood!

First, you should know that there are two types of images in messages: embedded images (which are part of the body of the message) and external images (which are found somewhere on the web and are displayed only when requested). For me, it was the latter that were causing the problem.

There can be 4 types of issues (together or separately)

1) Internet settings (described by exispam)
In the control panel, Internet options, advanced, multimedia, check the box "Show images"
Otherwise, no images

2) Outlook settings (described by pinkym)
In Outlook 2003, tools, options, security, modify download settings, uncheck: do not automatically download images
If it's checked, you have to give the order to download images every time by right-clicking.

3) Registry Security (SEP solution, which works in certain cases)
In Start Menu, Run, type "Regedit", then delete the registry key

4) And then MY problem, which was not resolved by any of the cases below
Hold on: it was due to the settings of Internet Explorer!
For 3 years, I've only been using Firefox, and IE is just there cluttering my desktop. As a result, I had never worried about its connection settings. I only configured Firefox and Outlook: mistake! because since we use a proxy, the default configuration of IE didn’t allow internet access.
And there, you need to know that many software use IE's connection settings for certain sub-tasks. This is the case with Outlook.
So, even if you never work with IE and it annoys you to pay allegiance to Microsoft, configure IE as if you were going to use it. It's hard to accept, but that's how it is.
So:
Right-click on the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop (the one without the shortcut arrow)
Properties, Connections tab, LAN settings, and then configure it like your usual browser
Also check, it's silly, that IE is not in offline mode. Thanks to Bisouli, because it was that silly remark that got me on the right track.
