Hi, you can always try to see if there is a proxy server being used in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings...

    Check "Automatically detect settings"
    Uncheck "Use automatic configuration script"
Uncheck "Use a proxy server for your local network"

Then please set your IP address back to dynamic (via DHCP, not static)
    This worked for me.

For me, it was just that my network had been downgraded from "private" to "public."

Already this, "169 and in manual there is no possible connection," means that it assigned you a default address, "169.xx.xx.xx" because the DHCP could not assign you another address, or simply that the DHCP server was not found.

Have you changed the configuration of your PC? Could someone else have done it? Did you try rebooting your box? Are both PCs in the same mode? That is to say, static or automatic IP addressing? Do you start your PC before the box or the other way around?

Also try doing ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew to reset the network addressing and see what happens.

lien01, let's be serious... it's simply that the DHCP couldn't assign an IP to the PC; that's all, and there's no need to format a disk for that; usually, a reboot of the router is enough, possibly followed by a restart of the PC. This is common on ASUS when the network card goes to sleep (as in the case of running on battery).

    Hi everyone,
Error code 1231 when I ping the box and I also have a connection with limited access.
Everything was working fine and it happened all of a sudden.
I will try to update the Vista service pack.
If you have solved your issue, it would be nice to let me know, otherwise formatting...
    See you later.

Hello, I may have a solution that has already worked. You need to uninstall your network card without deleting the driver in the Device Manager (because if you no longer have the driver, you're out of luck) and reinstall it (refreshing the list in Vista will reinstall everything on its own and your error will disappear).

Please let me know if it works.

If it helps, I got this error (general failure) when I added a route to my routing table.

To visualize this table, open the command prompt and type the command (route print)

For me, it was PeerBlock that was blocking the IPs.
