Unzip on MAC Closed

Question

Hello,  I'm unable to open a ZIP file on my MAC. I'm getting an error message saying "Unable to unarchive XXXX in 'Desktop' (error 1 - Operation not permitted.)" What can I do?  Thanks in advance.

Hello during my research I found THE answer to the problem... I had the same error message: "Unable to unarchive "blablabla" in "Desktop". I have a solution because I had the same issue on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and I spent two days trying to figure out this problem. (I tried everything, repairing permissions, etc... I even almost re-installed the system!)

And actually, the problem didn't come from there at all...

Did you download this zip via FTP?

If so, check the "transfer type" in your FTP software: My Filezilla was set to ASCII transfer mode (so text), and that was causing this operation not permitted issue. I simply changed it to "Automatic" (but it works in "binary" mode too) and then re-downloaded the zip and, magically, no more problems... it opens!

The error message is simply not accurate. "This file cannot be opened because it was corrupted during transfer" would have been clearer...

Last detail, there's no point in trying with other software (StuffIt, 7zip...) the problem will be the same because the zip is corrupted anyway.

Hoping this helps others, because this post isn't dated yesterday ;-)

AA cool but what’s the point of unzipping? Does that mean we can download files that aren’t .zip on our Mac? I have Mac OSX, thanks for answering =-)
