Navigation bar in VLC

Hello,
When I open a file by selecting 'open with VLC', VLC starts, the movie begins, but there is no navigation bar and no menu at the top of the window, making it impossible to move through the film.
The top of the window displays: "VLC (Hardware YUV Overlay DirectX Output)"

However, if I launch the file from within VLC (file, open,...), everything is normal.

Is there a specialist who can tell me which box to check to make it normal all the time? The previews in the mule are not great...

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

I've got it, so to disable this crap you need to go to:

- Preferences / Video / Output modules / DirectX then check the "advanced options" box at the bottom right and uncheck the "use hardware YUV -> RGB conversions" box.

Then restart VLC and it should be fine!

See you later!

The manipulation suggested by Jull didn’t work for me, so I’m mentioning it in case it helps someone: I finally solved the problem by going to Start > Programs > VideoLAN > Quick Settings > Reset VLC Media Player Preferences and cache files.

It was pretty simple... I would have searched for a long time for not much: p

just uninstall VLC and all the components (preferences and caches), then reinstall it and that's it!!
For me, it was fixed this way.

Hi Jul, I'm jumping in a bit late because I've just had exactly the same problems as them. I did the manipulations you mentioned,
it just shifted things around. In summary, I open a video via VLC and the screen appears as usual with VLC + a second smaller screen with:
VLC hardware YUV DirectX output, and if I want to enlarge my main screen where I'm watching the video, it appears cropped, it doesn't enlarge and is eaten up by a black screen of more than 3/4. So what do you think? Thanks in advance.

For info, with Winamp, it plays well but I find it lags a lot!
Is there a top-notch video software that plays all this quickly and well that you know of?

Hello, I recorded the Super Bowl 08 (it is DVR-MS) and when I play it with VLC, I don't have the time bar and I can't skip to the moment I'm at! So if there was a way to help me, thank you.

just to add a small tip that might be useful to others.

My VLC had no menu, and I couldn't launch it from the icon.
So, I couldn't access the preferences to make the change: - Preferences / Video / Output modules / DirectX

A simple solution in this case, install myfreetv, and launch VLC externally (see myfreetv settings).
Myfreetv must enforce certain settings, and the sound tabs become operational.
Change the DirectX option as described above, reboot, and your VLC will be operational again.

Good evening, I don't know where you found this solution with myfreetv
but to me it's nonsense, if VLC doesn't work I don't see how it can be opened with this method.

Hello everyone!

I had the same issue, reinstalled VLC after changing my computer.

Cnono's response is partially correct; you just need to reinstall Java, quite simply (VLC requires JAVA but doesn't specify it ^^).

Wishing you all the best.

Hello!
I have the same problem as Cnono, I can't even launch VLC!
Apparently Dril, you solved the issue, but could you explain how you reinstalled Java because I must have about thirty folders of various kinds named Java on my computer, so I don't know if I should delete everything and reinstall or if there's an easier way?

Thank you in advance
