No sound with HDMI connection Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,

I have no sound between my Canal Plus HD decoder and my Samsung TV when I connect them with an HDMI cable.
Does the problem come from the TV or the decoder? The picture is perfect, though.
Thank you for shedding some light on this.

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.8

Hello,

Having the same problem on Samsung with all my HDMI ports with PC and Freebox, I reset my TV by holding down the exit button on the remote for a good while.
The TV restarts and the sound comes back.

If this can help before contacting customer service.

Hello. Does your Samsung TV have an HDMI port or a DVI port???? It's important to know that HDMI ports carry both video and audio, while DVI only carries the image. You need to connect your TV with a video cable (red and white). The HD decoder has a digital audio output that you can connect to a home theater. See you later.

Thank you for getting back to me.
My TV has an HDMI port and I am using an HDMI cable. I also connected a line using a white plug and a red plug to get very low sound.
But it's not normal that the HDMI connection isn't working! Progress is great!!!

YES, YES, I turned the sound all the way up on the decoder. Despite that, the tone is weak;
I saw on the forum that other people are having sound issues with HDMI.
There must be something we're missing!

I have a big problem with the HDMI input. I had a Freebox HD (V5) and a PS3 connected to my LG 26LC2RB television via HDMI, and everything was working great, but all of a sudden, no more sound on the Freebox and no more signal with the PS3! I then took my TV to the service center, and after waiting for a month, I reconnected my Freebox and PS3 and had the exact same problem! I wonder what they did with my TV for a month!! The Freebox works with Scart and I think the PS3 does too, but since I set it up with HDMI, I can no longer use it with Scart.

I'll be going back to the service center tomorrow....

I have the same situation as you:
My HDMI output from my Freebox was working perfectly until yesterday.
Since then, there's been no sound.
My analysis of the problem is that it comes from the Freebox HD.
And I'm almost sure of it!
So, contact FREE for a replacement of the Freebox HD.

For your information: when I connect the standard output of the Freebox, the sound is fine. I'm connected with a "high-end" Home Cinema and full HD screen, which thus confirms my diagnosis.

I hope this has clarified things for you.

I rather have the impression that the problem comes from the free HD: My cable works perfectly with my PS3 and I have no sound (inaudible sound) when I use the same cable with the box.

Good evening everyone.
I am also encountering the same problem as Ingenitium... Overnight, I lost sound on the devices connected to my TV via HDMI cable (PS3 and NeufBox)
I didn't know where the problem lay.
So today, I connected the PS3 to another television in the house (Sony) with all my HDMI cables: everything is perfect.
Conclusion, I think the problem comes from the TV (and not from the PS3 or the HDMI cables used).
So, I tried connecting my PS3 to all the HDMI ports (x3) on my TV: I only get an image and no sound.
(so I do believe that the problem comes from my TV.)
I will go to customer service this weekend to present this problem.

Same problem with my Samsung HD TV, no sound with peripherals connected via HDMI.  Reset as explained by Philde, and it's back on.   Weird that Samsungs do this.

You need to right-click on the speaker in the taskbar. You select playback device. Select (hd). Right-click and set as default.

I'm interested in your response, but it doesn't work for me: connecting the C+ decoder to a Samsung TV with an HDMI cable. Then connecting the TV to the Home Cinema via optical.
I have no sound.
The oddity is that if I connect my PC via HDMI to the TV (and to the same HDMI input), it works. The sound from the PC goes through to the Home Cinema.
Do you have any idea?

Today I found out how to fix the problem for about 100% (well maybe 99% :P). I won't hide that I'm super happy (because I was a case of despair), I even wrote it on the calendar. LOL. Well, I'm 14 years old. And it took me 3 months to figure it out!!! So here’s how to do it:

1. First, check that you have plugged into the right port that handles the sound.
2. Download software to update your drivers (trust me, this is essential). In my opinion, for some reason, the HDMI might not work anymore or something like that. (PS: I downloaded "Driver Genius"*; the only issue is you have to activate it to update). Install the updates.
3. Restart the computer, you never know, to apply the updates :D.
4. Connect the HDMI cable, unless it's already done. Start the sound. If it still doesn't work, continue.
5. If you're using Windows 7 or Vista (let me know if I'm wrong), right-click on the volume next to the date. Click on Playback devices.
6. And there, normally, your TV's name with -TV should be displayed. Left-click on it then click on Set Default at the bottom. And there, like magic, the sound appears. If it still doesn’t work, change the HDMI port if you have another one.
7. If everything works, please thank me, to encourage me to become a computer engineer (Thanks !! ;) ). Otherwise (I hope not), start over and if it still doesn’t work, unfortunately, comment, ask, and explain what isn’t working.
