We live in a concrete house under a metal roof, the mobile network does not work well depending on the time of day and I have to go outside to get a signal. How can we solve this problem?

thank you.

    Hello,

By definition you cannot, unless the reception outside the house is of good quality, connect an external 4G antenna outside the house that would communicate inside the house via Wi-Fi if it passes there or via a wired connection to an indoor receiver, entailing more substantial work in the second case and posing a problem if you are a tenant.

Such devices are available commercially, though I don’t know their effectiveness.

Wouldn’t it be just as easy to connect the phone via Wi-Fi if you have a box, which is what I do at home where reception is not great, and where, anyway, the advantage is not consuming your data plan?

    Hi,

Connecting the phone to the Wi-Fi with the box is technically possible provided that the internet service provider offers it; that is not the case in REUNION. Unfortunately.

      Hello,

I’m obviously not on site, but it’s surprising: it’s the phone model that enables or disables this capability, not the particular Wifi network.

Orange propaganda (and obviously that of hoteliers as well), I have no stake in it, not only does it not cause problems, but it encourages this practice.

      Hello,

I share brucine's opinion. I doubt there are boxes specially made (and throttled) for Réunion. Orange boxes (like all the others) having Wi-Fi, you need to pair the smartphone (ditto for a Wi-Fi printer) and you can establish communications on the telephone network via the internet (while keeping 4G when you are on the move.

Still to be verified the Wi-Fi range if you have concrete walls or tempered steel (I will skip the interferences due to fridges, backup generators, transformers, metal cupboards, microwave ovens, in short any source of electrical interference).

    Hello.

According to this brief recap, https://mercuron.eu/fr/kennis/blog-fr/quels-materiaux-sont-mauvais-pour-la-couverture-des-telephones-portables/

Metal is the worst element for signal reception for mobile phones > -32 to -50 dB.

In this case, you would need a GSM amplifier/repeater, read this:

    https://www.onedirect.fr/content/guide-achat-repeteurs-gsm

There is then an administrative aspect regarding this type of device that I do not master, about whether it could interfere or hinder other wavelengths that are much more important; so you need to inform yourself before any purchase.

I understand well that a sheet-metal roof is sometimes necessary due to certain weather conditions in Réunion, but unfortunately, it is also a hindrance to GSM signal capture and not the least.
