Hello, I have a USB drive to install macOS Sierra on my Mac but for some reason I don't know, it's not working; it says an error has occurred. My Mac is quite old, from 2010 I believe. What should I do?

What exactly is happening? How do you proceed (step by step)? What do you observe (error messages, etc.)? What is the origin of this USB key (did you create it yourself)? Is your Mac functioning (with which version of Mac OS X)? What exact model of Mac is it (check from the serial number, for example, if needed)?
