Precaution: Backup Firefox and Chrome Bookmarks
Although bookmarks are retained, it's always safer to have a copy.

It is generally a problem related to the browser or an extension. Try completely closing and reopening the browser, then restart your device and try again to clear the history.
If that doesn't work, temporarily disable the browser extensions and check for any pending updates. Clearing the cache and cookies separately may also resolve the issue.
