Putting an image in perspective

Hello

I'm working on my images with Paint.net V5-0-2. I'm looking to modify their shape to put them in perspective. I go to "Effects/Distort/Perspective": the image distorts but I can't achieve the desired final effect.

I used to have an application a long time ago (!!) where by successively clicking on each corner of the image with the mouse, I could give it the desired shape (like a trapezium) without any difficulty.

Does this exist in Paint.net? Or in Photoshop? Or elsewhere?

Thank you in advance for your help ...

Hello,

I don't know Paint, but with a search for "image deformation Paint" you'll find quite a few things.

With Photoshop, or even free Gimp, there are perspective filters or you can simply make a selection and use deformation.

But in any case:

Creating a perspective that doesn't exist from a 2D image amounts to having something not very good (distorting into a trapezoid is still just a deformation and not a perspective), which has limitations and won't ensure a quality result, and/or completely redrawing the perspective, which requires a fair amount of work and skill. With vector images, you can achieve better results more easily since you are working on vectors (points and lines in a mathematical coordinate system) and they can be deformed at will without loss of quality; however, it remains a long-term job: more than just deformation, which will simply 'distort' the image and make it ugly, it will be necessary to use a clone tool, copy textures in selection, erase and 'color' entire areas, use a smudge/blurring tool (I think that exists in paint.net), and numerous layers to achieve a result that isn't too ugly and not too noticeable.

Maybe there are AI software that do this well, but in traditional drawing or graphics, nothing allows you to automatically invent something that isn't there.

Example with Gimp: https://docs.gimp.org/2.4/fr/plug-in-curve-bend.html

In the middle of the article, a diamond deformation with paint.net using the rotate/zoom tool: https://www.sebcar.net/2015/03/paint-net-4-astuces/

Hello Igor

Thank you for your response to my question. The information provided is extremely interesting. I downloaded the GIMP application and managed to modify my initial layer. Of course, as you say, this distortion is not a true perspective, but since I am a retiree who only works on photos for himself, I am satisfied with the result obtained. Getting into vector images seems too difficult for me, and I'm not "geeky" enough for that!

I also read sebcar.net. With GIMP, all of this opens up a truly amazing field of work possibilities!

Thanks to you, I have learned and progressed, and I thank you once again very warmly.
