Hello

HP desktop Windows 10 Home, Orange subscriber, connection via electrical network and Orange Box

Since I joined Orange, I can receive my emails but I can't send any. I have to log in through my browser on Gmail, La Poste, Yahoo, etc., to send an email

However, if for example I sign up on a site and need to validate an email address with a link, it works from the mail app I use.

I use Thunderbird, but I have the same problem with other email clients

I was previously with SFR and everything worked fine

I have BitDefender as my antivirus

If someone has any ideas, I’d be grateful

Hello,

Another hypothesis. It is possible that Orange, like Google, has strengthened email sending security by requiring third-party applications (like Thunderbird) to use an application password for the email account.

Good idea in theory, but I don't think it comes from there; Outlook is working.

If you answer the question (which is quite simple) by talking about your life (which I'm not interested in), we can't move forward in the intention to understand and fix the problem...

Note: 2020 a thread related to Thunderbird, 2021 a thread related to Tdb, 2025 a thread related to Tdb

Thunderbird is considered very reliable, so this is clearly a "risky" usage.

It is up to the user to configure the accounts, otherwise delete and recreate them while allowing Tdb to automatically search for updated connection settings.

Hello,

In Thunderbird, make sure you are using the SMTP of the email provider and not Orange's SMTP.

For example:

smtp.laposte.net **************** port 587************** security STARTTLS

smtp.mail.yahoo.com *********** port 465************ security SSL/TLS

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.

Thank you for your response

My settings were not quite like that (port 465 and SSL/TLS) but Laposte did have its own SMTP. However, in the list, Orange is still the default server.

I did a test send with the new settings and I still have the same error message:

"The message sending failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to the outgoing server (SMTP) 'smtp.laposte.net' failed. The server may be unavailable or refusing SMTP connections. Please check that your outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

As usual. It’s very curious and quite frustrating.

Removing Orange as the default SMTP does not change anything

I tested Outlook after the update from Mail to Outlook, and curiously, a message sent from the laposte account in Outlook went through and arrived at another account. So the problem seems to be related to TB or at least to its compatibility with an element of the computer.

Good evening,

This could be due to the settings of your Orange email account, where you need to allow a third-party email application to send mail.

Hello

I don't have an Orange mailbox, I use Thunderbird and several accounts: Gmail, Laposte, Orange, Yahoo. None of them allow sending messages. However, my Internet service provider is Orange.

Thank you

Hello

on Thunderbird
start with the most important email address for you
indicate the anonymized email address and the IMAP, POP, SMTP settings used

hello

several of my addresses are important; I use them for different purposes. One for rather official messages, another for blogs or press, yet another for regular business dealings: subscriptions, recurring purchases... Others only serve as contact addresses mainly for commercial sites that I only visit occasionally.

None of them work in TB in terms of sending.
