Transfer photos from my XaomiA3 phone to computer

Hello, I am unable to transfer my photos from my XaomiA3 phone to my computer. The photos are on my phone but the computer window says "empty folder".
There is probably a step that I am not doing correctly, but which one?
Connect your device (phone) to your computer using a USB cable.
On your device (phone), tap the notification "charging this device via USB" But where is this notification???
Under "Use USB for", select File Transfer. But where is this notification???
A file transfer window will open on your computer.
