Hello and thank you for the response, but unfortunately I no longer have the "Add a shortcut" display under the search field. My Google homepage had disappeared and was replaced by another one. My son managed to restore the Google page, but the shortcuts are gone. I've tried quite a few things, but nothing works.

Try this:
1) Set your homepage so that Chrome starts on the new tab page.
Open Google Chrome, clear everything in the address bar and copy-paste:
chrome://settings/appearance
Press the ''Enter'' key on your keyboard
On the right (Appearance section) highlight --►''New Tab'' Page
Close and relaunch Google Chrome.
2) Google Chrome homepage shortcuts
Once Chrome starts on the ''New Tab'' page, click on --► Customize Chrome at the bottom right
Scroll down in the menu.
Highlight/check --► Show shortcuts
The effect is immediate if you had created shortcuts.
Otherwise, you will need to create them again.

on the other hand, with resetbrowser. recommended by basfile it works and in addition it only takes a few minutes, thank you very much for this help, I had been struggling for hours trying to solve my problem
