Hello,

My Panasonic NV GS320 camcorder connected to my PC running Windows 10 is not recognized either by firmware or via USB cable.

How can I fix this?

Thank you

Hello, your camcorder uses a MiniDV cassette and connects to the PC via a FireWire port and an IEEE1394 card. Check the functionality of this card on your PC in the device manager.

    Hello,

And greetings to Glandu whose responses in the video category (among others) have greatly enriched my knowledge. I would like to add the following comments.

To my knowledge, the FireWire format is no longer used, at least it hasn't been delivered for more than ten years.

Therefore, for a camcorder to be recognized, merely having a PC upgraded to Windows 10 is not enough to ensure recognition, whether through FireWire or USB.

It must also be that the interface manufacturer has written a driver corresponding to the new versions of Windows. This is not at all straightforward for most peripheral manufacturers, especially when development has stopped.

As a result, if you cannot find the driver for Windows 10 for the relevant interfaces, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to achieve hardware recognition.

Of course, Glandu or another hardware specialist may refute my statements, and I will take their opinions into account.

      Hello georges97

Firstly, thank you for your response regarding the unrecognized camcorder.

I must specify that I am all the more surprised by this malfunction as everything was working normally in 2020 (I then made numerous captures from the mini tapes). Four years later, nothing is working anymore!

Do you have any ideas in this context?

      Thank you

Without any modifications made to date (I have ensured that the firewire is functioning correctly), I do not understand what is happening.....

        Hello,

The only hypothesis I assume is related either to an upgrade from one version of Windows to another, or an update of the installed version of Windows (which occurs regularly). It only takes an unsupported version by the firmware of a device for a disconnection to occur.

I am only talking about the camcorder driver as a device and not the Firewire card.

However, I don't believe that a combination of cables or interfaces would be enough to remedy the situation, but I could be wrong. Others may have continued their tests.

That said, I am not a video specialist and Panasonic might be able to validate this point.

The only way to be sure would be to install the firewire card on a PC running a version of Windows under which everything worked.

    Hello,

Personally, I will try Cable "Ilink" --> Firewire card in Xcard adapter --> USB

hello "jo" good point I no longer use the bus so I slipped into the manager it shows in good working order I was at the time on 10 I am on windows 11 but I will test with a dv camcorder let's wait for mariam's response

it is likely that installing an ieee1394 card now requires the installation of the corresponding drivers and one more thing mariam needs to connect a editing software this facilitates recognition and transfer

    : glandu:

Avidemux, VLC, and VideoCutter, will those be enough for video editing software?

Hello, I would say in your choice of Avidemux 'never used' and you have the 'photo' module on your PC that would do the job of capturing your camcorder content in real time.
