Open images in small size

Hello, I recently got a new computer.

Since the beginning, when I open an image, it displays small.

I would like it to display in full screen automatically without having to click "maximize window" each time. I don’t know if there’s a way to do it, but I’ve never done it since I’ve had computers.

The manipulation is done on Windows 11 and the default app "Photos" of Windows.

If you could guide me, please, thank you.

Hello

As strange as it may seem, Microsoft has removed this option, who knows why, it's a bit stupid on their part, let's admit it.
So it is simply not possible at the moment.

The only option is to find another third-party image viewer that allows this and install it, then set that program as the default for opening images.

Best regards

Hello,

This is for example the normal behavior of FastStone Image Viewer when opening an image from the context menu.

If there are multiple images in the same folder, you just need to move to the right with the arrow key to view the following ones always in full screen.

Thank you for the response. What seems strange is that my brother has the same Win11 as I do and he doesn't have this problem; it opens in full screen right away.

I'll see if I can find another software, but as you said, it still seems crazy.

It seems strange to me because internet searches all say the same thing, Photos has no option for that. Not having WIN 11, I can't test it.
But I searched again and nothing indicates this possibility, except with an impractical workaround. If it works for your brother, it would be necessary to compare the versions of "Photos"; it's not Win 11, maybe there's an older version because it existed previously and users have complained to Microsoft about no longer having it.

Correction here's what I found but it needs to be verified as it may depend on the version:

Using the Windows Photos app

  1. Open the Photos app :

    • Search for "Photos" in the Start menu and open the app.
  2. Photos app settings :

    • Click on the three dots in the top right corner of the Photos app.
    • Select "Settings".
  3. Enable full-screen option :

    • In the "Viewing" section, make sure the option "Always start in full-screen mode" is enabled. If this option is not available, it means you will have to manually open images in full-screen or use another method.

Using another image viewer

If the Photos app does not offer the option to start in full-screen automatically, you can use another image viewer such as IrfanView, FastStone Image Viewer, or XnView. Here’s how to configure IrfanView to open images in full-screen:

  1. Download and install IrfanView :

  2. Configure IrfanView to open images in full-screen :

    • Open IrfanView.
    • Go to the "Options" menu and select "Properties/Settings".
    • In the window that opens, go to the "Display" tab and check the option "Full screen/Window" -> "Always display in full screen".
    • Click "OK" to save the changes.
  3. Set IrfanView as the default image viewer :

    • Right-click on any image on your computer.
    • Select "Open with" then "Choose another app".
    • Select "IrfanView" from the list of applications and check the box "Always use this app to open .jpg files" (or the file type you selected).
    • Click "OK".

With these settings, every time you double-click on a photo, it will automatically open in full-screen with IrfanView.

Hello,

Install Photos Legacy:

Open the settings of the Photos app and scroll down to Photos Legacy:

Click the blue button and download it.

Photos Legacy will install in addition to Photos. It's up to you to use it by default.

The problem should be resolved.
