Panasonic TV backlight issue

Hello,

I have a problem with my Panasonic TX 55GX555E television that I bought used a week ago. The first time I set it up, everything worked perfectly; I used it for 30 minutes, then turned it off, and when I tried to turn it back on two hours later, I had sound but almost no image (I had to get really close to the screen to make out a faint image).

I thought the problem might be with the backlight, but I still checked all the connections after removing the back cover.

Then the television turned back on, and I was able to use it all evening without any problems. But the next day, it was the same story: sound but no image.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem or have any idea where it might be coming from?

Thanks in advance.

Hello.

This is due to the LED strips being burnt out or poorly powered. To get an accurate view of the problem, you need to disassemble the TV and access the LED strips. See this video.

Hello,

You can read this:

https://www.lcd-compare.com/tv-led-dossier-18.htm#full-led

To understand the nuances of backlighting; yours is a "Direct Full LED."

It is indeed a backlighting issue... but for all the LEDs to be bad at the same time is a bit curious...!

It could also be the power supply for the LEDs...? But also the wiring that connects the LEDs, with the currents being quite high, a junction can burn out or become unsoldered (like it works again the next morning)

There are also some of these TVs that have a backlight brightness adjustment... if that malfunctions, it can also cut off the light.

The problem with opening it up to look inside is that you need double the screen area available to operate... not easy in the dining room..!!

Prognosis: I would first bet on the wiring of the LEDs with a cut in a spot that has burned out, a solder joint... or a burned LED. Clear photos would be needed.

Ok, I will take it apart this afternoon to try to identify the problem and take some photos, I'll keep you updated, thanks!

Hello, just a quick update: I haven't had the time to take everything apart to access the LED, but I wanted to try something. I removed the back cover and just slightly moved the connector that powers the LED bars, then I turned the TV back on and bingo, it started working again.

Does this mean that the problem is upstream from the LED bars and could be related to the connector or the power supply?

Have a great day!

As I mentioned in my previous message, this is due to a power supply issue; according to your observations, it is likely caused by a loose connection.
