Fraudulent scheme impersonating Orange's name

Hello,

I was a victim of a scam today. A number called me this morning, saying there had been an outage in my town and that I needed to immediately call a number starting with "0026". They insisted several times that this number was free, completely costless. Out of naivety, I contacted this number and the same lady answered. She told me that now, to verify the line, I needed to take my mobile phone and call the same number back. I found that strange and hung up. But she called back, insisting that I must not hang up as it would block the update. So I did what she told me, I stayed on the line. After nearly half an hour, I hung up. The lady called me back, I told her that I couldn't call her back and she said that when I had the time I should start over. I went to the Orange shop to find out if I had been a victim of fraud or not, and indeed, I had. After contacting the number 3009, which is indeed free, I was told that I had been scammed and that I was not the first. A very hefty bill came in, and I am really upset... Do you think there would be a possibility for me to be reimbursed at least partially? I am really upset about getting scammed; we don't even know who to trust anymore! I just want to know if it would be possible to get a little compensation, thank you!

    Good evening,

In principle, no, you called the number in question of your own volition and in this case, the operator is not obliged to reimburse you.

The operator is not responsible for your actions.

For the rest, it would be preferable to block the number in question on your phone and also to come back here next time for any doubts about CCM before calling again if this should happen in the future; here, all answers are free.

    Hello,

Since you called a premium-rate number of your own free will (even if unknowingly...), it seems difficult to obtain compensation, unless you have insurance that covers this type of damage...

And since these scams are set up outside French/European jurisdiction (see the number...), even filing a complaint would hardly have any chance of leading to anything...

I have modified the title of your topic... this is a scam impersonating the name of Orange and not a scam by Orange... (they themselves are victims of the impersonation of their commercial name... in this situation)
