Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 from 2015 with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz

8 GB of RAM, 64-bit processor, equipped with a 256GB SSD, a 2TB HDD, and a 1TB HDD; unfortunately, it is not compatible with Windows 11.

Is it more economical to keep my tower and replace the CPU with one compatible with Windows 11 and upgrade to 16GB of RAM with an i5 from the 11th or 12th generation or an AMD Ryzen 5600, or to buy a new tower?

Thank you in advance for your advice

Hello

You need to check the label inside the tower; the power supply should be 300W. In this case, there’s not much to reuse, just some old disks that are already worn out as memory in a new tower?

What is the new one for? As soon as you play a bit, it’s a new tower; the old one runs Linux for a grandpa like me.

Hello,

Be aware, TPM and Secure Boot, the Windows 11 requirements, could be settings related to the motherboard and the BIOS.

Hello.

To upgrade to Windows 11, the PC must meet the following requirements: https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/windows/configuration-requise-pour-windows-11-86c11283-ea52-4782-9efd-7674389a7ba3

What generally holds you back is the TPM chip, which must be present on the motherboard. If you receive a message in Windows Update indicating that the machine is not eligible for the Windows 11 upgrade, it means that this chip is not present.

If you want to upgrade the computer to Windows 11, this involves changing the motherboard. Changing the motherboard also requires changing the CPU and memory. Additionally, since the Windows 10 license key is associated with the serial number of the old motherboard, you will no longer be able to install it on the revamped PC. You will also need to purchase a Windows 11 license.

If you wish to get an online quote to have an idea of the cost of this modification, visit the Materiel.net website. You will be able to choose a motherboard. Once the choice is made, the site will only suggest CPUs and memory compatible with that motherboard. This way, you can create a functional setup with an idea of the price. You can then check other websites to see if you can find these components cheaper. As for the Windows 11 license, there are indeed very cheap options available online.

With all this in mind, you just need to determine what is the most interesting option based on your budget.

Best regards
