Paint - color modification of the eraser

Hello,

In Paint, the eraser (or the erasing of a selected area) typically leaves a white area.

Sometimes, it leaves a color (or a patterned background), and I have not found how to change this behavior (and return to white).

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely.

Jean

Good evening

Thank you for your reply, but that's not it.

See the attached what I get when I use the eraser (in a new document), it’s strange.

Best regards.

Jean

Your answers still don't work with Paint on Windows 11, namely:

- With the eraser: instead of erasing, it creates a grid...

- Right or left click: it does not change the principle that I want to erase...

Hello,

Select the "Color2" of your choice, for example black, then white to return to white.

This procedure does not work... Always with gray gridlines

Hello as well,

Demonstration by absurdity by selecting Color 1 or Color 2 (White) depending on whether the object is in the foreground or not, applying it to a filled area with a background...

The "grid" (sic) has nothing to do with it, it's a tool obtained by checking it in Display to achieve better precision in one's actions and it does not appear in the final "work," it is unmodifiable, but if you do not want to see it, you can uncheck it...

Hello,

In the image, we are using Paint on Windows 11.

When we select the eraser, with the left mouse click, we erase everything on the image, using a transparent color (the void).

With the eraser and the right mouse click, we replace color 1 (black in the image) with color 2 (white). Therefore, the eraser only works on the black color.

In Paint on Windows 10, it’s different; the eraser behaves the same as the brush, except that it uses color 2.

Thank you for your response.

Indeed, the checkered patterns I get are not printed (white) and disappear when I save the file, but it’s different from the grid.

Attached is an image with the grid and the checkered pattern.

These checkered patterns are strange but I can live with them.

Sincerely.

Jean

Thank you for your response.

I believe I have understood the difference between white and the transparent color.

Best regards.

Hello, have you found a solution to remove the checkerboard in the background? It's bothering me too. Thank you.

Hello

This is indeed very disturbing:

- If you copy a checkerboard area, the checkerboard part works like a transparent selection.

- The checkerboard can be removed by pouring (paint bucket) white on it.

Is this function recent?

I don't see the point.

Best regards.

Jean
