Getting PDF24 to work

Hello.
I am looking to send photocopies to my correspondents. To do this, I scan the original and try to send it by email. However, my email refuses to send it, as the file is usually 15 MB.
I used PDF 24 to compress it. It worked well once or twice. Now:
- it accepts the file transferred by dragging (copying),
- the received file gets a black bar in the middle,
- I then adjust DPI, image quality, and color,
- and that's where things stop. The word "compress" remains dull for a long time. How can I activate it?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your response. I have a hard time understanding it since I was born long before computers. I don't necessarily speak this language. Could you explain to me what a virtual printer is and, above all, how it works?

    Best regards.

The virtual printer does not produce paper documents. It creates PDF files from other documents.

It appears in the list of available printers.

The Microsoft printer is provided with Windows 10 and 11.

It can be selected at the time of printing or beforehand, if the choice is not offered (it is temporarily selected by default).

Therefore, the output in PDF is done by choosing Print!
