Unable to be heard with Nintendo Switch headset-mic

My son has a Nintendo Switch Lite, and he just got a headset of the same brand with a microphone. He can hear others but we can't hear him. We tested it with basic headphones and the problem is the same. What should we do? If the headset was the issue, the headphones should have worked.

    check if you haven't accidentally disabled the microphone in the parental controls
