Table of contents and navigation pane

Hello,

I am currently writing an internship report. When I create my table of contents, it displays correctly, but in my navigation pane, I find a duplicate of all my headings (those present in my document + those in the table of contents). I can't remove the elements from my table of contents in the navigation pane. The only way is to go to "References" > "Add Text" > "Don't show in table of contents," but if I do that and update the entire table, it cancels the manipulation.

It must be a silly mistake, but I don't understand.

    Hello

    How did you create your table of contents?

    You must have used the heading styles, whereas to create a table of contents, you need to use the Table of Contents button under the References tab.

    Hello,

    Unfortunately, I did use the table of contents in "References" and not the title styles. I even customized it.

    "I've even personalized it," that's what scares me!! :)

    Look at the styles you've used for the table of contents, which should be named TM1 for the first level, TM2 for the second, and so on.

    Hello,

    When going into the "options" of the table of contents, the available styles are Heading 1, Heading 2, ... Heading 4. And when going into "modify" of the table of contents, I have TOC1, ...

    If I delete this table of contents to insert a pre-existing Word table of contents, my problem remains the same.

    No, that's the problem.

    The navigation pane takes all the heading styles: Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.

    However, the table of contents should take the styles TOC1, TOC2, etc.

    Once the styles are modified, don't forget to update it by checking that the styles have been properly applied.

    I'm not sure I fully understood. My table of contents correctly takes the TM1 styles,.....

    And since the navigation pane takes all the heading styles, it indirectly includes that of TM1,.... hence my issue. I don't see what change to make?

      To be more precise, the navigation pane takes all the texts that have the hierarchical level of a title, and therefore by default the texts that have a title style.

      Now, if your TM1 styles, etc. also have a hierarchical level of a title, they will also appear in the navigation pane.

      Normally and by default TM styles do not have a hierarchical level. So, check your TM styles.
