With personal means, you can't really...

-- However, we can check if it is bent or broken and if water has entered, in that case, it's DEAD...

-- We can also measure the voltage supplying the LNB, from the decoder, we should have 13 or 18 volts... if this voltage drops to zero, it means the LNB is short-circuited... or the coax cable... even a single fine hair touching the coax sheath can be fatal...

-- You can also check the reception level on the signal bar graph, on your TV screen, in the installation menus... do not confuse Level and Quality... if the level shows a value, it means the LNB is working...

-- To have quality and image reception, your satellite dish must be properly oriented towards the satellite corresponding to what you want to receive... if you’re not perfectly aligned, you won’t receive anything... and a poor reception means it's just slightly misaligned.
