My PC won't turn on, the BIOS flash isn't working.

Hello,

I bought a motherboard on Leboncoin and installed it on my setup to test it. The RAM RGB lights up, and the water cooling screen displays a warning symbol, but there’s no boot, no display, and no fans turning on.

I wanted to do a BIOS flash just in case the BIOS wasn't updated for the Ryzen 5000, but when I pressed the button, the BIOS flash LED blinked 4-5 times and then stopped. I waited just in case, but there was no change. I renamed the BIOS file to MSI.ROM and deleted the text file from the USB drive because I hadn’t done that before.

Now, when I press the BIOS flash button, the RAM lights up and the water cooling screen does too, but the BIOS flash LED doesn’t turn on. No debug lights illuminate, and no other RGB lights turn on.

My setup:

Ryzen 5600x

X570 Gaming Pro Carbon

RX 6800 Pulse

16GB Crucial Ballistix RAM max 4000MHz

Seagate Firecuda M.2 SSD

H100i Elite LCD water cooling

550W Aerocool Lux power supply.

The setup was working perfectly before the motherboard change.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be, and why the RAM lights up when I press the BIOS flash button?

Best regards,

Sébastien

Hi

Honestly, I have no opinion, except that it seems to me that the flash function via the button and USB generally works without the CPU installed, but you should check the motherboard manual, as there are variations from one brand to another and from one motherboard model to another.

Then, the problem with starting from a second-hand board is that there is always doubt about its actual condition when it doesn't work.

Ask the seller to take it back and refund you.

Hello,

Here is the procedure:

Updating the BIOS with the Flash BIOS button Before the update: Please download the latest BIOS file corresponding to your motherboard model from the MSI® website and rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM.

Then, save the MSI.ROM file in the root directory of the USB flash drive. Important: Only USB flash drives formatted in FAT32 are supported.

1. Connect the power supply to CPU_PWR1 and ATX_PWR1. (No other component is required but the power supply.)

2. Plug the USB flash drive containing the MSI.ROM file into the Flash BIOS port on the rear I/O panel.

3. Press the Flash BIOS button to flash the BIOS, and the Flash BIOS button light starts blinking.

4. Once the BIOS blinking process is completed at 100%, the light turns off simultaneously.

Which version of the BIOS do you have installed?

For your processor, you need at least version 7B93v1F.

See you!

PS: It is important that the drive is formatted in FAT32 with only the MSI.ROM file on it.
