Disappearance of the green dot on Facebook

Hello, I no longer see a green dot appearing on Facebook (the list on the right) to indicate that one or more of the "friends" on the list are online. What should I do? Thank you.

    Has this happened once or is it recurring? It is common for it not to display; sometimes all it takes is to refresh the page.
