Connect a standalone DVD player to a laptop
Esme -
Hello,
I bought a TV and 3D glasses from my landlord. Having the 3D glasses, I was sure that the Samsung TV would read 3D... but no????
The problem is that I bought several 3D DVDs and a DVD player that plays 3D...
Following advice I read on various forums, I bought an HDMI/USB adapter to connect the DVD player (Panasonic) to the USB port that is incoming. But the signal from the DVD player is not being detected. Was the adapter just defective? Is there an additional step to take or is it hopeless?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello, I am responding based on my knowledge. An external DVD reader costs around €25 and has a USB interface to connect your reader to your computer, which needs to have software like VLC or Cyberlink to play DVDs.
Be careful of HDMI to USB cords that convert everything and nothing.
Note: you will be able to read your 3D DVDs, but in 2D.

Thank you for your response. I do indeed have an external CD/DVD drive that connects directly via USB.
However, my wish is to connect a standalone DVD player to the computer in order to watch in 3D with suitable software. I've seen several, but I want to know if it works first before continuing to incur expenses.
Hello, I think that the HDMI USB cable is not the solution.

Hello,
It seems that you need a video capture card... https://www.materiel.net/montage-et-acquisition-video/l640/ Since you have a laptop, you will need an external box.
The equipment in the link is just there as an example.
