Network Ethernet card disappeared...

Good evening everyone,

I have a little cry for help, as I'm completely lost...

Here's my problem:
- At 5 PM, I was working on my PC, everything was fine. I put it in simple sleep mode.
- At 9 PM, I wake it up, but I notice that it restarts as if I had turned it off (without asking me, maybe an update?).
But once it’s on, I notice that I am no longer connected to the network (the taskbar icon shows "No Internet access, no connection possible") and notice, after checking the device manager, that the network card has completely disappeared from my PC!!!

For your information, I am on a desktop PC, MSI MPG X570 GAMING Plus motherboard, integrated network card.
I switched to Windows 11 4 days ago without any problem (just a freeze at 77% while I was using it as suggested during the download, I restarted and the install finished fine).
I used my PC for 3 days without any issues.

For my network card problem, here’s what I did right after turning it back on at 9 PM:

- I check the Box, everything is fine, my laptop accesses the Internet
- I unplug and replug the cable, nothing
- I change the cable and the outlet, nothing
- I run a cable directly from the Box: nothing
- I run the network card troubleshooting utility, but apart from enabling Wi-Fi, it doesn’t offer anything else.
- I go into network properties, the "Ethernet" card shows the state "Not present", connectivity "Disconnected"
- I go into the device manager, my card no longer exists!!!
- I restart the PC, nothing...
- As I have a Wi-Fi card installed, I connect, it works (since I'm here...)
- I looked at forums that suggest reinstalling the card driver, yes, but I don’t have a question mark on the icon of my card, in fact, the card isn’t there at all...

In short, I am lost…!!!
Do you have any advice???

    Hello,

    Probably a Windows 11 update that installed (or didn't) an incompatible Ethernet network card driver with the hardware.

    You should check on the manufacturer's website for a driver for this card if it exists for Windows 11; otherwise, it seems that there is one that worked in Windows 10 for Windows 11: you should download it, force the installation, and then prevent a future update by blocking it, for example via wumt:

    In this area, I don't think it's ever a good idea to enable driver and "other products" updates in Windows Update, but everyone does what they want, and in any case, the problem can arise simply because such an update would be part of a Windows 11 update.

    Is the network card indeed enabled in your motherboard's BIOS?

    No fault reported in the device manager? (Yellow triangle)

    Hello,

    If there are no device alerts, proceed with an sfc:

    Windows key + X
    Select --> Windows Terminal (administrator)
    Type --> sfc /scannow and press enter

    A system file check will take place.

    There you go, everything is back to normal!!!
    I had left my PC turned off all day and upon restarting, the network card reappeared!!!
    I had already restarted my PC last night...

    However, tonight, the card was disabled. The troubleshooter did its job and everything is back to normal...

    It’s still a HUGE mystery: how can a network card disappear after waking from sleep and reappear after a long shutdown???
    Someone needs to explain this to me...

    But, as you said Brucine, I really feel like the switch to Windows 11 has something to do with it...

    Otherwise, Kaumune, there was no alert in the device manager; in fact, the card simply wasn't there anymore, not even in other devices...
    And Kaneagle, in the end, I didn’t get the chance to try a "sfc"...

    Anyway, mystery...

    Thank you all for taking the time to give me troubleshooting leads, it turned out to be thankfully easier to resolve than I thought... phew...
