Internet access possible but no online gaming.

Hello,

I saw that some topics on the forum were similar to mine but none of them seem to have the same context as I do, which is why I'm creating a new thread.

I got a new PC some time ago because my old one broke down; my old one ran all games perfectly and there were no issues with online games.

However, since I got my new one, I can't launch any online games (Destiny 2 for example). For context, I travel between two places with this PC; when I'm in what I'll call place A, everything works perfectly and I can launch any game. However, when I'm in place B, no online games work anymore.

In place A, I’m with Free and in place B, I’m with Orange, so I assume the problem comes from the router, but I don’t understand since everything worked very well with my old PC in both places!

It also doesn’t seem to be related to the router's position since I tested launching the game while being right next to the router but that didn’t work either.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thank you in advance

Hello,

This is really a very strange problem; either Orange is blocking the DNS contacted by the games in question, or there is a firewall somewhere that is blocking these accesses.

Can you tell us more about place B? Is it an Internet connection that you are using at work? Do you have a place C to test the functionality?

On the other hand, I don't know if the games are running from the Steam platform, but I assume they are since it’s Destiny 2.

Thank you in advance for your future response.

Hello, thank you for your quick reply,

Location B is just a simple Wi-Fi connection that I use at home for everyday life, it has no connection to my work.

I don't have a location C to test, but with a hotspot from my phone, the game starts without any issues.

And yes, I forgot to mention that the game is indeed from Steam.

Thanks in advance,

Hello

On box B, the Orange account can have parental controls set up which blocks a lot of crappy sites.

The new trend is to sell things during the game that ruin your family; it charges the credit card.

It's likely... Especially if FelixG is a dependent child, it's probable that his parents have activated this feature to prevent him from being distracted by various content intended for mature audiences.

This may include preventing access to video game entertainment.

Best regards,

Matthias

I'm not a child x) In any case, everything was working on my old PC, so I don't see why parental controls would have been activated in the meantime.

Is it a home connection?

But then where is place A, if it's not at your home?

Unless you have two f***ing providers. :')

Best regards

Hello,

Place A is the apartment where my girlfriend lives, and both have fiber.

And honestly, I didn't even know it was possible to have 2 providers ^^'

Thank you in advance,

Well, let's say that on the same line, it's completely useless.

But in a house or a business, one can have several telephone lines. As was the case at my place for a while... xD

When an online game no longer works, does that mean the game is unavailable in multiplayer mode? Or that it doesn't start anymore?

Thanks in advance for your answer

When the game doesn’t work, I can launch the software, but as soon as I try to connect, I get an error message saying that it can't connect.

I would also like to point out that the servers are activated.

Moreover, I just saw in the game logs this: "13:41:53: [INFO] Blocking the loading of the file: "C:\Program Files\Norton Security\Engine\22.23.1.21\symamsi.dll"

I will try to completely disable the Norton firewall and keep you updated.

UPDATE: it didn't work.

Re

2 apartments, 2 subscriptions; one can be ADSL while the other has fiber installed, but you have to dig up a whole street to install the fiber in the street. You don't have a choice; you take what exists. If the old PC worked on B, it should be possible with the new one, you just need to negotiate if it’s the parents who have the account and pay the Orange bill to accept the new PC on the Orange box, otherwise it’s the settings of the new PC.

You might be called to change settings, some at A, others at B at worst.

The phone can manage, as long as it has a nearby antenna, there's no need to change. That's mobile.

If you have software as strict as Norton, it's likely the source of the malfunction.

The key would be to check the firewall logs to see if it's actually blocking outgoing requests to the servers of the video game in question.

If you also knew the list of DNS queried by the game, that would help xD, as you could test their availability with a PING request.

We should check that quickly.

Sincerely,

Shadow.

Hello,

I don't really know much about network and I'm not sure how to find out the list of DNS called by the game.

I also just realized that I can now (even though I haven't made any changes) connect to the game for a few minutes, but it disconnects me shortly after.

UPDATE: I can no longer connect at all despite not having changed anything.

Thank you in advance,
