Good way to connect a CPU cooler with 2 fans?

Hello, I bought a Dark Rock Pro 4 which has 2 fans and I would like to know what is the recommended method to connect 2 fans to the motherboard? There is an adapter provided, but I have one with a 4-pin connector and the other with a 3-pin connector. Which fan should I connect to the 3-pin and which one to the 4-pin? Why does one have 4 pins and the other only 3?

    Hello,

    Can you give us the reference for this motherboard? Adapter provided by whom? The 4 pins are for speed variation but it's not always mandatory.

      It's true that their documentation is quite poorly done, there are no details at this level.
       

      You have two "CPU FAN" and "CPU OPT" 4 PIN ports on the motherboard, you should (if it's possible) connect each fan directly to these ports separately (no matter which one goes where).
       

      The fourth wire is a speed feedback from the fan to the motherboard, but on a 4 PIN connector you can only have one feedback. That's why there are only three wires on one of the connectors. With this adapter, the PC sees the two fans as one, and will control them at the same speed (with one running in "open loop" mode (without speed control), so if there's a problem with that one, the PC won't notice).
       

      This can be a workaround on motherboards that are limited in available ports, but as I said at the beginning, your motherboard seems to be well-equipped, so you should be able to avoid it.

    Hello

    It's not a big deal, you can test both connections without risk.

    Run a burn test with a software that provides the times and give us feedback for the next ones.

    The rotation speed measurement can only be taken from one of the two fans with a Y adapter; that's the only explanation I have. Both fans are PWM, so they will vary with the motherboard's control. However, you might notice a difference; just test to keep the connection that cools better.
