Hello everyone!
I am currently reflecting on choosing my new PC, particularly my processor! With a tight budget of €550, possibly stretching to €600, the Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 remains more attractive at a price of €109. Exceeding €150 would bring me to €600.
My question is simple: can I really trust this processor to run new-gen games like GTA 4 at full or nearly full settings, paired with an XFX GeForce GTX 260+ 896MB graphics card? And will it be able to last me 2 or 3 years?
Thanks in advance!

I think it's enough if you're not trying to run games at full settings

so it might be more useful to spend an extra €50 on the graphics card rather than getting an E8400, because in the long run, it's mainly the graphics card that will hold you back.

Here are some configurations for €500; prices may have dropped a little now.

Have you already got a screen or not? Because you can get an E8400 and a better card, the HD4870, for €500.
Try to see if you can start allocating part of your budget for an E8400 and the HD4870, and get the rest based on how much money you have left.

I already have the screen, yes, indeed the Radeon is not bad at all! Would a 500W power supply be enough?
Another question while I'm at it, is DDR3 really better than DDR2? I currently have 4GB of DDR2.

If you already have DDR2, keep it. What kind of DDR2 is it?
For a 500W power supply, it should be fine, but if you plan to add a second graphics card later, it will be a bit limiting.

Thank you for your reply.
I opted for your configuration jeromefranco, the e8400 and the hd4870, right within my budget I'm reaching €549.
For my RAM, I think it's not great, 2x2go g.skill extreme2 p6400 pq, I looked more at the price than the quality... €30 for 2 GB.

You're within budget, but you might not have a heatsink, which could add about €50. You’ll need it later though. You could consider downgrading to an E8200, which would save you around €30, and it overclocks just as well.
Provide a summary of what you have with the prices to see what needs to be changed. We don't know if you have a hard drive or what motherboard you have.
Your RAM is about €50-60 in total, so you have PC10600.
I wouldn't recommend the graphics card, as I can't find any PCI-E 16X with two 16X slots, only dual 8X8X, which is a shame if you plan to add the same graphics card later. Otherwise, I think it's around €150.
