Outdoor building wifi repeater

Hello,

I would like to be able to use Wi-Fi in an annex building located about ten meters from my main residence, where my internet box is located.

In the annex, I can get the Wi-Fi but the signal is weak. Depending on the quality of the computer used, I may get nothing at all or manage to watch a video in low quality.

I already tested a repeater that was supposed to also act as an amplifier, but it does not amplify the signal at all. On the contrary, connecting via the repeater reduced the Wi-Fi signal, so I returned the repeater.

I had understood that an amplifier could, from a weak Wi-Fi signal, reproduce it to increase it. Is that the definition of an amplifier?

Besides that, what solutions exist, without cabling, to obtain better Wi-Fi coverage in this annex far from the box?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide!

    Hello,

I’m not an expert, but for about ten meters I would suggest using an outdoor wifi access point such as this one:

    https://www.tp-link.com/fr/service-provider/business-wireless/cpe210/

Of course, the access point must be oriented perfectly so that its built-in directional antenna points toward the annex:

The access point must be connected to the modem via an Ethernet cable.

    Have a good Sunday.

    Hi,

an Wi‑Fi amplifier, in the sense of boosting the radio signal, doesn’t exist; it would just scramble the original signal.

There are repeaters or range extenders, but they aren’t amplifiers; they retransmit the signal they receive on a different frequency.

And there you go, there you go, there we go ....

But alas, how tedious line spacing is!!

    Thank you for the feedback!

    Indeed, by continuing to search:

    - a repeater is not an amplifier; do not buy that if that’s what you’re looking for

    - an outdoor wifi access point is a serious lead to redistribute Wi-Fi in an outbuilding

    - a powerline adapter could also work; as far as I’m concerned, I need to check whether there is continuity of the electrical line between my house and the outbuilding. If that’s the case, it could work.

    Hi,

Since the distance to your exterior location seems quite short, I think installing an external access point to the main building should be enough.

And there we go, there you have it ....

But misery, line spacing is such a pain!!
