Hello,

hello,

I am planning to buy a smartphone for a 15-year-old teenager.

Is 3 GB of RAM sufficient?

Who could give me some advice? Thank you in advance.

    To clarify things:

    * The RAM (for example 3 GB) is necessary for operation; it plays the same role as on a computer.

    * The internal storage (for example 64 GB) is used by Android and the apps that can be installed additionally. A part is used by apps to store their data: emails, WhatsApp.

    * The additional storage (SD card) is used to store data: images, videos, documents, etc. Currently, it is practically impossible to install apps on it.

Internal storage is therefore particularly important. If it is insufficient, it will be necessary to limit the number of apps so that Android, which is obviously a priority, can perform its updates.

    Hello,

It depends a bit on the parents... who have created higher needs for their children...!!!

If it's just for calling... 1GB is enough... but often, it's for the office and the playroom... For me, 3GB is sufficient... that said, you can find a lot of smartphones with 4GB now... it changes the price a bit.

What consumes more is actually the Nand memory... you need 32 or 64GB, that's what you use to store apps, downloaded music, videos... it's a bit like the hard drive.

In any case, it will probably be dead in three years, broken, dropped in water or... well, and the "needs" will have changed...

That gives you something to think about... nothing really new.

Hello, on my new Android smartphone, with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, over 17 GB is already taken up by the Android OS, which I didn't know before the purchase, so I'm soon going to buy a 128 GB one because I need much more storage.

        Hello,

It's due to a lack of space issue that I changed my Galaxy A5. It was still functioning perfectly fine and only had 2 GB of RAM.

        Thank you for your response.

I think a memory card is absolutely necessary for "unstoring."

But what goes on the RAM? And what is stored on the internal disk or the memory card?

        That's the question, really.

I understand that for device and app updates, a good amount of RAM is necessary. For everything else, isn't a 125 GB memory card sufficient?

      Thank you for your response.

It's certain that everything must be adaptable depending on how one uses the smartphone.

    Hello,

That could be perfectly sufficient. For gaming, performance will likely be limited.

    Check out this article: https://www.lesnumeriques.com/telephone-portable/labo-smartphones-quel-est-l-impact-de-la-quantite-de-ram-sur-les-performances-n157597.html

Instead, pay attention to the internal storage: no less than 64 GB. Some manufacturers still offer smartphones with less storage: those should be avoided.
