Video Crackling

Hello,

I was at a music festival and I took videos there. While watching the videos, I noticed that my smartphone recorded more of the vibrations from the speakers than the music itself. Is there a way to fix this? And if not, why does my phone mainly pick up vibrations rather than the music?

My smartphone is an Oppo Reno, which does produce good quality videos.

Thank you for your response.

    Good evening,

did you have earplugs at this festival?

It should be noted that from a certain sound level, the microphone(s) of your phone will be saturated.

Just like if you scream with all your might, the sound won't be pleasant to hear either.

And then the spectrum covered by these microphones... hard to know, it's rarely provided in the technical specifications of a smartphone but you can try to apply a high-pass filter with Audacity or another application/software if you prefer, so you will need to eliminate the low frequencies presumably (by reducing the decibels or dB). Also, if you have an adjustable option in the equalizer of your video/audio file playback application:

EQ: How to Use an Equalizer? | Home Studio Project

OR even (these images are just examples, you need to find something similar)

    AVS4YOU >> AVS Audio Editor >> Equalizer

by pushing the leftmost bars (3 to 4 bars, you can try more but it'll get increasingly strange) all the way down and adjusting to have a more or less blunt sound curve/profile.

I do not guarantee an incredible result. That's why in film or YouTube video shoots, we always test the sound before filming because it's EXTREMELY hard to fix in post-production compared to the image, but in this case, there was nothing you could do given the context except have an external microphone... maybe.

PS: after doing this, if you notice an improvement but can't hear much, you can also try to boost the higher frequencies a bit (but not too much) towards the right, but proceed gradually.

someone who knows sound better may have other ideas

Thank you for your response, but I do not understand why other people who did the same thing as me have no similar problems. Could having Wi-Fi, NFC, and mobile data enabled affect this?

Knowing that the issue does not directly come from the phone's speaker but from the video recording.

Of course, the waves can cause interference, especially because there were a large number of phones nearby (otherwise you would have the same problem at home), but I don't think that explains everything.

So the videos sound good when you listen on the phone but not on the computer? I'm sorry, something is escaping me.

In any case, feel free to download the video again or send it via another means, by email or via the cloud for example; this can resolve some encoding issues.

In particular, the HEVC codec often causes problems.

You can use VLC (on both phone and computer) to watch the video:

      https://www.videolan.org/

It is compatible with a wide range of codecs, more than the default applications in any case.

Then, as for your friends, some may have slightly higher-end phones... Perhaps newer Apple or Samsung models. It should be noted that Chinese brands, in order to keep competitive prices, often make compromises exactly in such areas (microphones, speakers, etc.) that don't make a huge difference to the naked eye/ear... except in extreme situations like concerts or anything else.

      Hoping this helps

You didn't understand everything, but in any case, you gave me some answers that I was expecting (which is the most important). So thank you.

I am sorry to hear that. Please feel free to describe the problem differently if you want someone else to look into it:

<< Knowing that the issue does not come directly from the phone's speaker but from the video recording. >>

This sentence is not very clear to me and implies a lot; I don't know what you mean by "the video recording" (which device, which software/application). Furthermore, the way you've written implies that some things are working: but what exactly is working, and what is not working?

      Best regards and good luck.
