Bare power cable Freebox Devialet.

Hello,

I recently bought a used Freebox Devialet on eBay. The seller was cooperative in showing me videos that demonstrated the device was functioning properly.

However, upon receiving the device, I noticed that the cable between the freeplug and the USB-C connection was frayed as if it had been gnawed. ( Of course, I mentioned this in my review)

Despite this, the device works perfectly. The colored wires inside are intact. Only the sheath and the filaments around have been "gnawed." And I would like to avoid buying a new freeplug for at least 50€ used.

I therefore applied black electrical tape to insulate the frayed part.

Is this sufficient to ensure that there are no risks for the device or for any other incidents?

Thank you for your future responses.

Hello,

Please check again (if it hasn't been done) that none of the individual conductors have been stripped. Even in that case, another wire would need to have an uninsulated part for a contact to occur due to twisting or movement.

If any wires are stripped, they should be individually wrapped with tape, and then the whole thing should be wrapped as you did before.

That said, the currents flowing through these wires are low (low DC voltage, typically around 5 volts). So you do not risk electrocution, but the internet would work much less well (not at all).

Make sure the cable is not accidentally handled and you should be able to use your equipment for years.
