Hello,
I updated my Asus laptop while it was on battery. I had to leave, and it went into automatic sleep mode.
I suspect it did not manage to complete the update because when I tried to wake it up, the screen flashed, went black, then the fan started running very loudly and the PC shut down.
When trying to restart it, I have several scenarios but cannot access Windows:
- it turns on with a black screen, then a loud fan, then the PC turns off
- it turns on normally showing the ASUS logo, then the screen flashes, turns off, loud fan, then the PC turns off,
- it fails to turn on, making a noise like the hard drive is stuck, then loud fan and PC shuts down,
- it turns on with the ASUS logo, then a spinning wheel indicates "preparing automatic repair," then the screen flashes, goes black, loud fan and PC shuts down.
There is no specific order to these steps and it doesn't matter whether I am on battery or AC power!
I cannot access the startup options of WinRE to restore or reset the PC.
Any troubleshooting ideas??
Thanks for the help

Hello,
If you have data to recover from another PC, you can download the Sergei Strelec English ISO and create a WinPE USB stick to copy your data, browser profile, etc., elsewhere than on C:\
https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/sergei_strelecs_winpe.html
Create the USB stick with Ventoy in GPT mode (See in Options) and put the ISO file on it
(Secure Boot Support may be required)
https://www.ventoy.net/en/download.html
Boot from it using the PC's Boot menu
https://www.malekal.com/liste-touches-acces-bios-boot-menu-constructeur/
If you don't see it, you can search on Google “[Brand Model] Boot Menu Key”
To copy data, it's Copy > Paste
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use the tool to download the ISO to create a USB stick to update, repair, or reinstall Windows
Windows 11 https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows11
Put it also on the Ventoy stick
Boot from it using the PC's Boot Menu as explained above.
Choose “Custom installation” (Not upgrade)
Delete all system partitions and create a new one (This will delete the data). -
Unplug it
Remove the battery
Press the power button for 30 seconds
(This might help)-
Hello,
It's a laptop, and I managed to take it apart to disconnect the battery.
Indeed, there is a noticeable improvement! I no longer have the automatic repair preparation message.
I can even start Windows normally and get to the desktop. But yes, after 5 seconds, the screen goes black, the fan goes loud, and the laptop turns off.
I can also enter WinRe, but only for about 2 minutes because the screen turns off, then the fan gets loud, and then the laptop shuts down.
I'm afraid to initiate a system restore or a Windows restore with this unstable screen, which could further worsen the laptop's condition if it shuts down in the middle of the process.
Do you have any ideas about what could be causing this instability? What is causing everything to crash?

Back up your data and do a fresh installation
If there is still a problem, it’s the BIOS or hardware. -
Hi,
I still have a screen problem where it turns off and then the fan runs loudly and the computer shuts down.
I managed to launch the USB drive in the Boot Menu, then the Windows screen appears with a spinning wheel and I can't go any further, the screen flickers at that moment...
