Hello, hello,
Until now, I used to caption the photos taken on my device using the Photogene app on my iPad, then I would find the caption when I transferred my photos to my Mac computer using Picasa.
Photogene no longer exists, and neither does Picasa.
What replacement solution would you recommend?
The idea is to ultimately have the caption under the photo and to be able to write it while I'm traveling with just my tablet and not my computer.
Thank you for your help.

Hello,
Your problem appears to have no solution for several reasons.- It seems unlikely to have a caption under the photo, as there is no space. Photos are generally in 16:9 format and screens are the same format. Thus, all the space is occupied by the photo. Picasa had solved the problem by overlaying a box that contained the information. So if you want a caption to appear alongside the photo, it needs to be inserted into the photo; the file is therefore modified and I don't think that's what you want.
- Picasa has disappeared. But in any case, the information that could be written only appeared with Picasa. They have also disappeared from the albums that have moved to Google Photos. The problem will arise with any photo viewing software: The titles you add will only appear with that software.
The only solution I found consists of modifying the information in Google Photos.
When the photo is displayed in Google Photos, you click on the i for Information.
The text you write will appear in the lower left corner of the computer screen when you close the Info pane.
The drawback is that the text does not display if you put the photo in a slideshow.
It also does not appear on a mobile device. You need to request the photo details.

Thank you very much, Pierre, for your clear and prompt response. What a pity that software like Picasa hasn't taken over! Have a great day.

One more question: even though the visibility of the caption depended on the use of Picasa, do you know of any other software that offers the same system (with the space at the bottom of the photos)? Thank you.

Hello,
The captions you add to the photos are recorded in the photo file's metadata (IPTC data).
You need software that can modify this data.
The only one that can be used easily is Google Photos. It works on iPad.
With the photo displayed in Google Photos, click on the circled i for Information.
In the panel that opens, you can add a description under the date.
The problem is that this description does not appear on the displayed photo. You have to go into the information to find it.
When you use a computer, the caption you indicated is visible on the photo, either with Picasa or with Google Photos, only if the photo is in full screen.
(In fact, Picasa should still work, but it is limited in its ability to transfer files and albums).

I understood how to add captions to photos via Google Photos. But for now, I can't find them on my computer even though I downloaded the Google Drive app for computer. But it's probably just a matter of patience because I know it's definitely possible; I just need to get used to this new app.
On the other hand, how do I download Picasa – which no longer exists – on my new computer? (because if it were possible to combine Google Photos and Picasa, it would be, for me, a completely satisfactory solution.)-
Hello,
Picasa for Mac:

Click on Download.
(no virus, I've checked).

Alright. Which means, if I understand correctly, that you can't store photos on your computer using Google Photos (whose storage capacity is limited).
Picasa, unfortunately, I just followed your link but I got this response: "The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer." I'm running macOS Big Sur 11.6.6 .....
(And thanks again, Pierre, for your help).
