Hello, I have a Synology DS220J NAS with a 1TB HDD. It has been out of order for some time, and I would like to set it up at home (it was previously installed elsewhere).
I did a RESET and went to download Synology Assistant.
My NAS was found on my network with the status "not installed," which I think is normal.
When I request the installation through the assistant, it asks me to enter the installation file path. And that's where I'm stuck! I click on "Browse," and I end up at: "This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Synology > Assistant"
and there, I don't have anything that can start the installation.
Could you help me?
Thank you.

Hi

You need to download the DSM file (.pat) from Synology

https://www.synology.com/fr-fr/support/download/DS220j?version=7.0#system

Thank you, I just did it, I downloaded the .pat file related to my DS110J and I launch the application and now I have:
server error (n°38)
It tells me that the Telnet service is enabled and that I need to configure my router to forward port 23 to the Diskstation.
So I went to my Proximus page (192.168.1.1) and checked, the telnet service is indeed on port 23.
But after trying several times, the IP address of my Synology changed from ...9 to ...6 but I can no longer see the Synology on my Proximus page???
What should I do?

Thank you for your help

?? You said it was a DS220J

As for telnet, I don’t see what the router has to do with it since everything happens on the local network via Synology Assistant

You have nothing to do with it

I launch the application

???? What are you doing exactly?

All you have to do is what you mentioned in your first post When I request installation through the assistant, it asks me to enter the path of the installation file. and specify the location where you downloaded the pat file

No, it's definitely a DS110J
here's what I've done (and just repeated)
I went to kb.synology.com/fr and there, I went to find.synology.com
Now it tells me no diskstation found on the network
I run Synology Assistant and I still have the same problem.
I'm lost

If it's a 110, it's not the same pat file, change the type in the link I provided

Otherwise, why are you doing this (kb.synology.com/fr and here, I went to find.synology.com) it probably won't work, and not what you described in your initial topic?

I don't see why Synology Assistant would have found it for you at first and not now

Restart both (PC and NAS) and use it again

Indeed, it was my mistake to write 220 instead of 110!!
I will turn everything off and, as you advise me, start over following what I mentioned in my first post. I will try and come back if it works or if it doesn't!
Thank you

Don't forget to download the correct pat file for the 110J.

Thank you, I just uploaded the file 5022 as it asked me to while I previously had 5967. So here it's progressing.
On the screen, I now have: c:\Users\bs382\Downloads\DSM_DS110j_5022.pat
I click "next", it asks for my password, I retype Admin twice, it verifies and says it's OK, and then it goes to the network configuration and after 9%, there's an error code 38 again
"The telnet service of the DiskStation is enabled for troubleshooting. Please configure your router to forward port 23 to the DiskStation and contact Synology online support.

What should I do?

Hello.
I'll let you read a topic from the excellent forum:

PS. Once your installation is successful, change the passwords. The admin/admin combination is the most well-known...

For the 220J it was the DSM_DS220j_42218.pat

For the 110J it's the DSM_DS110j_5967.pat (version 5.2)

Why the DSM_DS110j_5022.pat which is a lower version (5.1)?

Did you do the "total" reset mode 2?

Thank you for your responses. I redid everything with reset 2, using the correct Pat file, and it still gets stuck at 12% with error code 38.
I checked, the telnet service is indeed on port 23.
I'm lost, I'm giving up for tonight, but I will first read what you suggested on nas-forum.
Thank you, and maybe see you tomorrow???
I will be absent in the morning (I’m giving a class on smartphones and tablets to people over 50!)

I haven't talked to you about Nas-forum

I'm rather thinking of a defect or an incompatibility on the hard drive.

It is indeed possible. But it's the disk that was inside before.
I will take it out and put another one in to try.
Thanks for the advice.

Hi

I just reinstalled a 211J
I downloaded the corresponding DSM version
I launched Synology Assistant which found the NAS and offered to reinstall DSM
I did this without any issues by clicking Browse and selecting the downloaded pat file

If it's not the hard drive, you can also run a memory test in the advanced options of Synology Assistant (gear icon at the top right)

Well! I see your email just as I was about to tell you that everything is working.
I followed your advice: I changed the hard drive (for a 500 GB one I had on hand) and ... miracle! Everything installed correctly.
I am now going to "try" to use it to the best of my ability.
Actually, it is a NAS that was installed in the PC club I have been part of for years, but I was not the one who installed it and unfortunately, that person has passed away. I took over the NAS when we cleared out our space. In fact, there are only four of us left! So, we meet at each other's homes in turns every two weeks. Since then, this NAS has been in a cabinet and suddenly I felt like doing something with it.
I'm glad you were there to set me on the right path.
A big thank you to you, have a good evening. I will certainly get back to you when I get stuck with the installation of one thing or another on this NAS.
