Hello to all CCM Members & CCM Administrators,
.
My Lenovo Thinkpad T440 is equipped with an Intel Core i5 4300U processor and 8 GB of DDR3 RAM.
.

.
I would like to know, on one hand, what would be the best processor to replace the current one, taking into account the maximum capabilities of the motherboard.
.
With the processor change, should I also expect to adapt the cooling system?
.
My question is the same for the RAM, as I want to put in 16GB, also considering the maximum capabilities of the motherboard.
.
For your information, it seems that regarding DDR3 RAM, there is also DDR3L whose voltage must be taken into account
.
Action for the 2 replacements to be made
.
Upon opening the case to replace the RAM, everything will be simple to do.
.
But how should I proceed correctly, and what precautions should be taken to replace the processor . . . . . so that once done on the hardware level, the PC will restart without any issues! `
.
For your information, purchasing processors in SWITZERLAND at a store is no longer possible . . . they try to make you understand that they are soldered and therefore non-removable, . . . and that you need to change your PC . . . !
.
THANK YOU for letting me know which stores or workshops in FRANCE and near Divonne-les-Bains I could go to
.
.
At full "speed" for your super solutions that are transmitted thanks to:

    Hello
on a laptop, the CPU is often soldered, so it can't be replaced
    for the RAM
scan your PC on the Crucial website
    or this:
    https://www.crucial.fr/store/advisor
you'll know how much RAM your motherboard can support and the type of RAM that is compatible

    Hello jfmimi,
    .
With the Crucial Link you sent me, it turns out that the maximum amount of RAM installable on the PC is 12GB.
    .
The 2 models with 8 + 4 GB DDRL, which the motherboard can support and which are compatible, have also been provided to me.

    Changing the I5 4300U Processor
    .
I inform you that the processor is not soldered at all, and I only had to unscrew 4 screws, then remove the plate connecting the conduit to the fan, then simply lift and remove the processor and hold it carefully not to damage the pins, and risk destroying it with ESD = Electrostatic Discharge.

jfmimi as well as all other CCM Members, I remain awaiting your solutions, certainly a Link that will inform me about the most performant and suitable processor for the motherboard of the Lenovo T440 PC!

    Hello jfmimi,
    .
First of all, A SUPER BIG thank you for the link on the processors / CPUs compatible with my Intel Core i5 4300U.
    .
I just have one additional question, because looking at the list, there is the following one that interests me to replace mine, namely:
    .
    the Intel Core i5-4288U CPU
    .
However, there is one piece of information that slightly "troubles" me, namely the value titled "Thermal Design Power: 28 Watt"
    .
Indeed, this value troubles me quite a bit, as on the Intel Core i5 4300U, it is only: 15 Watt
    .
Should I therefore take this into account and plan for adjustments to the cooling system in terms of hardware and software configuration, to ensure adequate temperatures?
    .
    .
In advance, A BIG THANK YOU jfmimi for your amazing solutions that help me progress thanks to CCM, which I keep promoting, like during events with the MotoCross Club "Meyrinos"!

Indeed, the Intel Core i5-4288U generates nearly twice as much heat as the Intel Core i5-4300U
      which can be problematic
