Hello,
I can't connect under Windows XP anymore
I have a connection via RG45 cable
the strangest thing is that when I open IE and type Google.com it works but even if I do a search it shows the result but if I click on a result it says HTTPS unable to display the page
isn't it a question of ports?

thank you for your response

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 98.0.4758.81

Hello,

IE on XP is an outdated setup for browsing the internet. IE is now unable to read most sites.

Check the latest version of Firefox compatible with XP and Vista, the ESR 52.9, which, while it doesn't offer all the current features, is still usable on many sites (but not all): https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32-sha1/fr/ download the .exe and run it.

Afterward, on XP, you should also check if you're on SP3. If not, install it: https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/systemes-d-exploitation/20759-sp3-windows-xp/

In my machine, it's Windows XP Professional Pack 2.

So you would need to install SP3 (Service Pack 3) first.

The problem is that it's an industrial machine with integrated software that costs a lot.

well, don't use it to go online, just for its specific software

I need to connect the machine online for remote diagnostics
Initially, I would need a TV or AnyDesk, but I can't connect them.

You should try Windows Remote Desktop, starting locally, because if it works and you want remote access from the internet, you'll need to intervene on the network to allow access. Or a two-step approach, where a PC from the local network connects to the XP PC via RDP, and the external user connects to the local PC with TeamViewer to use RDP to the XP

Also see, but probably with the same constraints as RDP:

Hello,

I realize that I previously said something silly: the SP3 update does not automatically migrate to IE8, the last version supported by XP, and I thought its capabilities were better (I confused it with Windows 7, which allows for higher IE versions).

As Google does not work, we have to cheat by downloading on another machine or via Firefox ESR:
https://download.microsoft.com/download/B/B/F/BBFCC870-E61D-4515-B81F-69D4D2F2B23B/IE8-WindowsXP-x86-FRA.exe

We install IE8, search for Google... and we crash again due to the lack of suitable security certificates in IE8.

On the other hand, the search works in the default engine (Live Search) where I search for the present forum link to connect: and I crash again for the same reason.

The moral is, even IE8 is unable to display a site requiring up-to-date security certificates, that is to say, pretty much all (unless we can import these certificates, which remains to be seen if it’s worth it), so we must use Firefox ESR, which is better but will also not work everywhere.

Indeed, there is the remote desktop from a client machine running a Pro version of Windows.

Nomachine should indeed work on XP, I have never tried it; provided we find a version compatible with XP, I don’t see why Teamviewer or Anydesk wouldn’t work.

Software that works peer-to-peer and not through an online server can be tricky because they don’t always bypass the Box or the router (this is often the case with Livebox Pro, for example).

But aside from this hurdle, I have previously connected to XP machines without problems via one of the many versions of VNC, or via Radmin 2 or 3, which is very powerful but is paid shareware.
