Hard drive formatted by Canal+ HD decoder

Hello,
I connected my hard drive to try recording with the Canal+ HD decoder. It worked, but once connected to my computer, I can no longer see my data, even though the content is not empty, and it asks me to format it.

    Normally, the boxes are based on another OS (Linux) and the formatting has been done to ensure compatibility. The goal is to record for later viewing, not to "copy" to a PC.
    So Windows does not understand this format and asks to format it in order to use it.

    It's normal, a disk formatted on a decoder like the one from C+ is formatted in Draw and is only readable by it... Not on another machine. It's to prevent smart folks from distributing programs stored on the disk!!

        In fact, this disk is in a proprietary "draw" format (actually RAW with the structure imposed by the decoder) and can ONLY be read by the decoder.
        Even another C+ decoder of the same model cannot read it...

        but why, while the hard drive is still recognized, not try a data recovery software?

        Especially for personal data, as I understand it...

        Formatting should be avoided, you only recover crumbs afterwards.

        For C+ I will check with data on a USB stick.

        Because the disk is in an "unknown" format to other tools and recovery software... And it is not "encrypted".

        It's neither FAT, nor FAT32, nor NTFS, nor HFS, nor ext2, nor ext3, nor ext4, nor UFS, etc... It's a format defined by the decoder (according to its serial number) and only it knows how to read it...
        For other systems, the disk is not "formatted", so they find neither files (no table) nor data...
