HELLO (Adding moderation)

I have an install.wim file from Windows 7, but I don't have the Windows ISO file or the Windows 7 DVD. How can I recover the ISO file from the install.wim file?

      Hello,

Indeed, why make it simple when we can make it complicated, unless we assume that the wim customization already includes a license.

Moreover, and by definition, the wim file is a deployment file used to install Windows via a script and without an ISO, otherwise it's hard to see (unless slipstreaming an installation, which means starting from the ISO) its usefulness.

There are several tools available to create an ISO from a wim file, but given the circumstances, I think it's best to stop here.

Google is your friend: you need to start the installation from, for example, WinPE on a USB stick.

To risk repeating myself, your request is quite abnormal.

There are many utilities to customize a Windows ISO (and thus a wim image) graphically.

Network administrators are therefore going to be pretty much the only ones wanting to directly deploy customized wim images from the initial ISO and do not need any assistance in this regard.

Therefore, there is no reason to want to install a standalone wim image without an ISO unless one has pirated it because it contains a license: this brings us to the forum's charter.
