DTI box for fiber?

Hello, two days ago a technician came to install fiber in our home.

He installed the fiber box in the electrical room and told us to connect it to the DTI box and then connect the box (which is in the living room, quite far from the fiber box) to the wall RJ45 socket.

It doesn't work, while when I test by connecting the fiber box directly to my box without going through the DTI, it works perfectly.

My question is, is the DTI box really meant for that? If so, does this imply that ours has a problem, or maybe the wall RJ45 socket as well?

Hello,

The technician knew nothing about it, or he expressed himself poorly. The DTI is only used by and for the telephone/ADSL line. With fiber, it is no longer useful.

By default, the box is best placed in the central cabinet. But after that, to distribute Ethernet to the wall outlets, there needs to be as many RJ45 outputs (the patch panel) in this cabinet as there are wall outlets. Is that your case? We would need a photo of this cabinet, the DTI... to get an idea of the installation. If there are no patch panels, it means that the cables are going directly from the DTI, and we will then need to install connectors at the end of the cables, and possibly review the wiring of the wall outlets.

What Box do you have?

Hi,
the technician probably meant patch panel instead of DTI.
Many people confuse the communication cabinet and the DTI.
The communication cabinet usually includes patching, the DTI for the old phone and ADSL,
and the PTO for the fiber arrival:

you can also find coaxial TV splitters there.
