Yes, I just tried again.

For example, copy the URL of this page, right-click on the desktop, new, shortcut.

If I right-click on this shortcut, properties, I do see a "Change icon" tab.

Don’t forget about the benefits of

With Firefox
If the site has an icon, you need to do a Drag and drop from the address bar to the desktop.

Start over with your shortcut.

Drag / dropr (Drag and drop)
Go to the site you want to create a shortcut for.
Minimize Firefox
Select the URL in the address bar.
Click and hold the left mouse button and drag it to the Desktop.
Release the left mouse button.
You can now maximize Firefox.

When I created the shortcuts, they all had the FF icon (at the top)
To customize them, I made a shortcut from the FF shortcut, and there is the box "change icon." This gives the second line, it's clearer.

Brucine had set you on the right path -► If I right-click on this shortcut, properties, I do have a "Change Icon" tab.

So you created a duplicate of the shortcut to be able to change icons.
Not very logical, but it works.
And that's the main thing.

I thought you would have more shortcuts on the Desktop.

After much research, I found the reason for the problem I had on my laptop but not on my desktop with the same configuration: a matter of settings.
Follow these steps in order:

- In Windows, open the Settings function.
- choose apps
- choose default apps
- At the bottom choose "choose default apps by file type"
- scroll down to Internet Shortcut URL
- Left-click on the internet icon on the right and choose "internet browser" and not Firefox
- Close Settings

- Restart the computer. The icons appear white on the desktop. Don’t panic, just click on one of them which will open in Firefox.
- Then reduce the size of Firefox to show the desktop, hold left-click on the lock in the search area of the toolbar and move the mouse cursor towards the desktop and release to bring up the shortcut with its original icon provided by the site.
- Do the same for all shortcuts.

If the text is too long, it is possible to shorten it by renaming the shortcut knowing that in some cases you need to keep more than one line of text for the icon to remain present.

I forgot to mention that the blank shortcut should be deleted after the shortcut with the correct icon has been placed on the desktop and before possibly renaming it. I am attaching 2 screenshots.
