Colorful phone cables

Hello,

I'm reaching out because I need to extend my RJ45 cable.
I have Scotchlok connectors to connect them, but the thing is, the colors are not the same...

I'm attaching photos: white cable, new cable, gray cable, old cable.

Thanks in advance.

Configuration: Android / Chrome 93.0.4577.82

    Hello,
I can't really see the gray in the white, well, I can't see it well with my own eyes.
Is the new one the one at the bottom?
Actually, what's important is not so much the colors, but to respect the twisted pairs.
And in the cable at the top, it's already quite untwisted :-(
    Mainly,
we need to see how it's connected at the other end of each cable and replicate it at that spot.

Can you find a match with these two diagrams:

Perfect, this diagram. I'm going to dismantle my outlet upstairs to check the connections and I'll get started on the wiring

Indeed, with the flash, you can't really distinguish the gray from the white, but yes, the wire at the bottom is the new one, and the old one is not twisted at all ^^

So there won't be any loss of speed if I use the Scotchlok connectors??? With the gel inside, it seems that's the best

Thank you very much for the super quick response

It's great for humid environments outside, water doesn't get in, so there's no oxidation; it's less relevant indoors, but it still works well.
For a network cable, you just have to avoid untwisting the pairs as much as possible.
But overall, indoors there are more suitable products for an ethernet cable.
This one requires a wire insertion tool; otherwise, this kind doesn't need any special tools.
Make your choice, they're here ...

      Hello.

So there won't be any loss of bandwidth if I use the Scotchlok connectors

Well, believe it or not, certified tests with specific machines validate the connections made with Scotchlok, along with all the properties that come with them.
Just make sure to properly protect these connections (plexo box or wall-mounted housing with straps, without tightening them too much).

The simplest thing for you would be to make a numbered paper diagram from 1 to 8 (+ground) for each wire, then A for the start of one of the cables, B for the junction of the two, C for the end of the other cable to ensure continuity of the wire colors and not get lost.

The only downside to your situation is that the cables are of different types, but it's not a big deal.

I'll work with these connectors since I have them on hand and I need to keep moving forward ^^

So ideally, it would be to make a junction box with an in-wall box?

      Thank you very much

    Hello,
It is not advisable to extend an RJ45 cable, as you will lose internet speed quality!

      Not necessarily.
If it’s done properly, it can work.
