Hello,
My device is two years old. I normally use it. After a while, the charging via the device-power cord stopped working. I bought an independent charger from a good specialist, but once in the device, the charge doesn't last very long.
I had a first device, the same model, that did the same thing.
The new batteries drain in the device within a few hours.
Thank you for your help.

Good evening,
It is possible that the charger is not charging properly or is faulty...
It is also possible that the battery is aging poorly and too quickly.
It is also possible that you are leaving the device on for too long... it should be turned off as soon as possible to save battery...
That being said, your request is severely lacking in figures to draw any generalizations... for example, what is written on the battery and also on the charger... the voltage and current and the capacity written in mA/h... This equipment is subject to technology and nothing else...

Hello,
Thank you for your response.
A few comments:
—It’s curious to have two identical devices purchased two years apart that have the same problem after two years....
—Charging the battery directly inside the device never seems to finish.
—When I use an external charger that works perfectly for my tablet and insert the battery, it drains after two or three photos, within a few minutes. And in less than 24 hours when it’s turned off.
—I bought two identical FOR Li-40B 3.7V 700mAh 2.6Wh Li-ion batteries to the one provided at purchase. They didn’t last either.
It’s as if the device continues to operate even when it’s turned off.
I’m starting to think there is planned obsolescence in these small devices marketed as toys for beginners, while they are very practical due to their size and allow for very nice discreet photos, unlike my Nikon which is far too conspicuous and operates on batteries that I can buy anywhere, thus avoiding running out of power.
Thank you for your help. -

It's true that it's a curious coincidence...!
I'm inclined to say that this camera has a defect; some electronic components don't last long, having been poorly chosen during construction... Maybe even in the battery charging circuitry... Which probably short-circuits... This would explain a very poor charge... and also the premature discharge with new batteries.
This device is sold at Darty https://www.darty.com/nav/achat/image_son/photo_numerique/appareil_photo/kodak_fz53-bk.html#product_caracteristics
You could go check it out, if it's sold in the store; and ask them if they sell many of them..?? And how many customer returns they have...
If I were you, I would buy another one from a different brand to avoid the same circuits...
I saw this one that seems to be in the same range https://www.fnac.com/Appareil-photo-numerique-compact-AgfaPhoto-Cam-C8200-Noir-Etui-Carte-SD-16GB/a13907599/w-4
It's up to you to decide... and to test your luck.. -
Hello,
Thank you for your advice. I will follow it without too many illusions...
By typing “Reviews on ....”, I found that English-speaking users have the same problem after 18 months or 2 years... Taking two or three photos drains the battery.
It is surprising that a brand like Kodak, which I have known for over 60 years (including Canon and Fuji), lets defective devices come off its production lines since the two purchased devices came from the same store, whose customer service does not work for Kodak... They no longer sell it...
This is a brand I will not buy again or recommend.
The disappointment of a user is bad publicity.
So I’m using my big, heavy Nikon, which is not discreet and doesn't fit in a pocket...
I will come back to read from you on occasion, in case a solution is found.
Thanks again. -

In my opinion, the Kodak of this device is not the one you knew... Before Digital.
In summary, Kodak, back then, was wrong not to embrace digital technology; they didn't believe in it... The struggle is ruthless, Kodak nearly went under and lost 90% of its feathers...
So the Kodak of now is a commercial revival of the name with products from elsewhere, most likely made at very low cost... I think around €10 at the start.. all the rest of the price used to support commercial circuits...
You shouldn't kill your dog... these countries also make good devices... But in these types of circuits, one shouldn't be surprised by a lack of reliability...
In short... That was my ode to Kodak. -
Hello,
Thank you for the information about Kodak...
My first camera, a Kodak cube in a brown leather case, I was seven years old in 1961. I've been into photography since... and it’s the first time I’ve encountered such troubles.
My film cameras that still work are in a dustproof bag and will go to a local photography museum. Just like my first one and the two that don't work but are aesthetic...
Thanks again for trying to help me.
Best wishes.
