I can't change my operating system on my Mac. I did the installation (10.11.16) and nothing changes, I still remain on the same version (10.10.5). I'm trying to use the software update search in System Preferences and the only response I get is: no updates available. What should I do? I have several blocks and messages to upgrade to a higher version.

Here are the general details of my Mac.

MacBook Pro (Retina 13-inch, early 2015)
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Startup disk Macintosh HD
Available Flash storage 7.30 GB out of 121 GB
Operating system OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

Difficulty installing upgrade to OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Thank you very much for any help!!!!

Good evening,

Why limit yourself to El Capitan?

This Mac model supports the latest version of macOS, so why stick with El Capitan which has quite a few limitations compared to later versions... I'm not saying you necessarily have to go for the latest version, (Big Sur), or even Mojave or Catalina, but at least to High Sierra.

To make this upgrade, check this page:

Hello W.Santos,

I invite you to read this discussion where I explain that Mojave can be a good upgrade for your Mac to avoid the constraints related to Catalina and Big Sur.
