Hello forum,
I have a "Mag Z 390 mortal" motherboard and a RTX2070 graphics card. I connected the graphics card to the monitor via HDMI, and I'm using the integrated sound from the monitor as best as I can. However, it's impossible to get sound from my external speakers unless I use an adapter
VGA/HDMI with a female jack plug next to it, which I can then connect to the male jack of my external speakers and it works, but the image quality is noticeably worse. What solution could be offered to the problem, if there is a solution?
Thank you for your help.

Hello,
On your motherboard, you have a "L-Out" jack surrounded by a white frame if it is indeed the "MSI MAG Z390 TOMAHAWK" motherboard, because the reference you give yields nothing.
Why not simply use this jack?

If it is rather the "MSI MAG Z390M MORTAR", this is the socket:
First of all, thank you for your reply AluMinioume, my bad, it is indeed the motherboard "MSI MAG Z390M MORTAR".
I have connected this output but nothing, so maybe it needs to be declared for Windows 10, logically it should be recognized when Windows starts but ?????
In a last-ditch effort, I thought of simply transmitting the sound via Bluetooth, but it's not normal that it doesn't work with a jack plug connection.

Actually, you're trying to work around the problem instead of solving it. If the jack doesn't work, you're not going to invest in additional equipment; the jack exists and should function. So since it's not working, it needs to be fixed.
On Windows, is there a red cross on the speaker icon at the bottom right of the screen?
Like this:
Can you post a screenshot of the device manager with the audio controllers category expanded?

Thank you again for taking care of my case,
it seems that nothing is coming out of this jack plug, the guy who sold me the VGA/HDMI adapter that is, therefore, behind my screen told me that I didn't have a sound return, in my opinion, the HDMI cable is supposed to do that but oh well! So next to the HDMI output of the adapter, there's a jack output where I plug in my PC speakers and that works but at the expense of my video quality. It seems that Windows 10 recognizes REALTEK,
In the device manager (Realtek (C) audio controller this device is working properly. In the bottom right, there's a little speaker without a red cross so sound card recognized.
I don't think there are different types of HDMI cables, so where is the problem????
For the Bluetoo investment, the Amazon giant isn't one to shy away from a little return (if I manage to solve it).

Yes, yes, I understood very well how your setup is currently done.
If Realtek is indeed present in the Device Manager and states that it is functioning properly, then go to the Control Panel (not the Settings, that's different), then to the "Hardware and Sound" category, and there you should see the Realtek audio manager in the list that appears (which may change name slightly). It's also possible that you don't have it. Can you take a screenshot of the Hardware and Sound category if you have any doubts?
If you don't have the manager, you will need to reinstall the audio driver for your motherboard. If you have it, open it and post a screenshot once it’s open.

And for your information, the HDMI cable has nothing to do with the fact that the headphone jacks on the motherboard don't work. However, the audio that passes through your graphics card does work, but since graphics cards only output audio in digital format, your seller gave you the adapter (which is actually more of a converter by the way) as a temporary solution, I would say. It's not at all the solution to the problem; it's just a makeshift fix.
Sorry, it's impossible to send a screenshot with CMM. Anyway, I think the problem lies elsewhere; Windows 10 recognizes Realtek and the speakers as well as those of the screen. The drivers have been installed and reinstalled, the BIOS is properly configured, the small HP icon at the bottom of the screen gives me the choice between Realtek or the screen speakers – one doesn't work except for a continuous noise while the others (screen) work well. Everything is enabled in the device manager, so I wouldn't want to keep bothering you with this. I think there's nothing coming out of the sound card.
Solution: add a sound card. I have one, but the connectors are different, and yes, equipment evolves, they have to sell at all costs. I found one on Amazon for 15 euros with a PCI E1 connector; it will fit, and the reviews are good. I think Bluetooth is not a good idea.
I don't know what you think, but anyway, thank you for your help and patience.

The jack connection that isn't working is a solvable issue, but it all depends on whether you want to spend time figuring out the cause and correcting it or if you prefer an alternative solution.
For a sound card, you can indeed get a basic one in PCIe, or even USB, which works just as well and is portable.
Since you're on a desktop PC, you should also have a headphone output on the front of the case. Does it work?
You say you don't have sound, but the corresponding audio output is still visible. When you unplug the cable, is the Realtek audio output still available?
A simple method to determine if the problem is software-related is, for example, to try temporarily booting into a system other than Windows, like a Linux distribution, for example, Ubuntu. You can install it on a USB stick and boot the PC from it without affecting the Windows installed.
Even if it is a hardware issue, replacing the Realtek audio chip is possible with a heat gun, but honestly, there’s very little chance that the chip is defective. You might also want to check the solder joints on the board.

I have some technical knowledge that allows me to manage, and it's true that with competent people like you, it would have been interesting to dig deeper technically. At the moment, I don't have much time, so I opted for the simplest solution, a basic sound card. However, I followed your advice for connecting my headset to the front panel and to the motherboard output; it didn’t work, even though the selection was made on the Realtek output; there's still a constant interference. So I'm waiting for this card for the intermediate solution.
I will keep the address of this forum and thank you for the advice you have given me.
